I see freefly systems recommend using an IDX endura 7S battery to power the epic - (using their custom made carbon Vlock adaptor to fit a larger battery on the Movi)
Though I read on IDX spec sheet for the battery that its maximum discharge current is 51W
whereas the RED user manual says the camera draws on average 60W shooting 5K at 24 fps.

Freefly systems and others seem to routinely use this battery with Dragon, as well as powering other accessories off it. How is this possible given the numbers?

Either the data provided by IDX or by RED is incorrect.

Anyone care to shed some light.

I'm asking myself the same question right now...

Do you know any different batteries (other than IDX) that have the same dimensions and weight? The GMP have a max discharge of only 44W, that would be way to low I think.

I know it's very delayed, but I have recently talked to IDX about this, and what they explained is that with a ballpark range of 60W draw from a Dragon / accesories, it's overdrawing the 7S + Cue D75 models, and while it will work, they recommended going with EHL9S batteries if the overall battery life is more important than shaving the extra half pound... Though it's funny they would still list the RED in their infographic, even though technically it's overdrawing their max recommended limit.
