Hey all, first time posting something here!
This is a music video I shot for Brian Fallon and his single off of his new album. Directed by Kelsey Ayres, we were referencing old 50’s and 60’s looks, and while I would’ve loved to shoot on 16mm, logistics didn’t work. My rental budget got cut last minute so we had to drop some things for myself. We shot on the RED Epic Dragon 6K rated at 1000 or 1280 ASA, 32mm and 65mm Cooke S4 Mini’s, and a Tiffen 1/4 Black Pro Mist for filtration.
Lit wonderfully by my gaffer, Jordan Alazruei, with 2 LiteMat 3’s overhead above the crowd and lead singer and a 4ft Quasar backlighting them, and hazed the room out with a DF50. We rented a bunch of 650’s and 1K’s to backlight the crowd, but ended up liking it more when we just let them fall into darkness. It was surprisingly simple.
Our goal was to give it an old school vibe, but really keep the energy up and just make a fun video. I think we succeeded, hope you guys think so too! I think some of my lighting might’ve been off between coverage, and you occasionally see a c-stand or two, but it didn’t bother me too much.
Would love to hear thoughts! I've been at this for about two years, still in film school for an MFA. Always learning!
