RED DRAGON + SCHNEIDER XENON FF-PRIME
We recently took delivery of a Schneider-Kreuznach Xenon FF-Prime lens set (35mm, 50mm, 75mm). Everything in this post will be a combination of RED Dragon and Schneider Xenon FF-Prime sample footage+stills. We'll keep this thread updated with fresh content. Thanks for looking.

PIOCHE, NEVADA
The same day we received our Schneider Xenon FF-Primes, we packed up a truck and headed 3.5 hours North, out of Las Vegas, and into the Pioche/Great Basin high desert. First stop, Amazon Ranch Equestrian Facility. We captured approximately 3 TB of landscape, wildlife, horses (both trained and wild mustangs), time-lapse, and even footage of everyone's favorite, not-so-secret military installation. Everything was captured at 6K with a Motion Mount and Schneider Xenon FF-Primes.

NOTES:
The Dragon performed flawlessly. Temps fluctuated around 20-25 degrees F and there was a light mist of snow in the air most of the day. The Motion Mount is a very underrated product. The built in IR proved to be a major boost on this shoot. It helped keep things light-weight and moving fast. We did not use a matte box. We employed Motion Mount IR filtering on almost every shot. Plus we used the motion control features to smooth out our night-time time-lapse on the Las Vegas Strip. Everything you see in the sample footage was shot on 128 GB REDMAGs with occasional high-rate overcranking. You'll notice a bit of noise in the blacks on the Las Vegas Strip time-lapse capture. This is mostly because we did not do a black level calibration after coming out of Great Basin. Temps were approximately 22 degrees different between Las Vegas and Pioche.

This was the second time in a week that we headed to Great Basin. Before receiving our Schneider Xenons, we shot on Nikon. Behind the scenes footage from that first Nikon-only trip available here (captured with Google Glass):

Thanks guys. After a few sessions with these lenses, we're happy to say, the Schneider Xenon FF-Primes are now the Blackwood Cinema glass of choice. Great quality lenses with sharp characteristics and a nice contrast. Good weight, decent speeds, great prices. All around, we're thrilled.

Thanks to Phil holland for bringing these lenses to our attention and to Film Tools for being an outstanding vendor.

Hi Rob,

Great to read this last report. What was the previous glass of choice, albeit in a compressed interval, please? Also, can you describe or illustrate your CA findings, if possible?

Thank you very much

Fury

Wow, those stills alone are looking really good. I am continually blown away by the images produced off this sensor.

Very nice indeed!

Thanks for sharing Rob. I'm a bit confuse,
I thought the infamous polka dots apearing when filming the sun (under certain angles) were gone?
It seems like they are still there at the begining of your clip, no?

My educated guess is the Motion Mount caused the flares. I'd be curious to see it without motion mount and using ND's if you'd get similar results.

Rob did you get the EF or PL mount versions of the lenses. I have the PL versions ordered but am curious as to how solid the EF mount is on the Epic.
Great shots.
Thanks
Mike

Must be the old OLPF causing those magenta flares.
