Hi!

I was wondering if any of the redusers have used a Canon 1dc once or for a longer period of time?

I have a Red Epic MX and I love my camera, and use it almost on every job.

I also have 2 Canon 5d Mark III which I used a lot before for filming, and still of course use for stills and time lapses.

Seems like I will be doing many one man jobs this spring, which will be ski touring/climbing films, and without base camps and the opportunity to use an aggregate.
I have a background as a climber, free skier, surfer and MTB.

I was wondering if an good option would be to try sell both the Canon 5d mark IIIs and exchange it to one Canon 1DC for those kind of missions?
Do the difference in retail price for those cameras match the difference in quality or should I just use the Canon 5d mark III? This films will be 1080p in the end.

One thing I would be interested in is to use the Red and 1dc together and shout 4k.

Eirik

I would be looking into a Panasonic GH4...... That camera is going to change the way people see things......
Quote me on this as Fact

Why do you say that? It's price to performance ratio is superior to the 1DC no doubt about it. But it's not a top notch stills camera and will be about equal internal 4K video wise. Plus it's 4/3rds sensor compared to the 1DC's full frame and APS-H 4K field of view. Also the 1DC lowlight ability is simply insane. Soo I ask again, why will it "change the way people look at things?" Not trying to be a jerk by any means just curious if you know something we don't in regards to the GH4 specs, etc.

+1

I have worked with the canon 1dc (very easy to carry around)...if you don't want to hack the 5d mark 3 then get the 1dc…it was really good

Thank you all for the response. I think I will look into selling both 5d camera bodies, and see how much I get and have to pay in between. I have already hacked one of them, but I would like to work without thinking about that it is hacked and also use the internal sound if needed as scratch or just use it.

Hei Eirik

We have an EPIC and a 1DC and a 5D mkIII and brought them to Kamchatcka, Russia last year to film a skiing adventure.
The Epic is without a doubt a better camera than the 1DC, especially for action sports, but it can produce great footage. We didm´t notice so much until we started to edit the footage together, but that´s of course when you see it. I cringed every time we had to cut to the 5D footage, the other two cameras are just that much better. Specially in uncontrolled filming situations.
If you can afford it, get the 1DC. The quick stock shots you can get with the 1DC is of course a great benefit over the Epic.

Good luck with the projects

Thank you Joachim!

I will try to raise the money and get it. Sounds like a cool mission. Was it maybe with Fredrik Schenholm? Filming skiing and active volcanos? Off-topic..

I have also looked at the c100-c300. But they are bigger and bulkier, and are not and option the few times I do stills.

I like what you are saying Jeffrey.

Think this could be perfect match for me. Almost as small as the 5d, extremely portable, would imagine good battery time, 4k and fantastic at low light situation where the red is not that good.

I use a C500 along with a 1d c, the best one, two 4k punch in the industry

Actually considering the Panasonic gh4 now. Did not know of the extra interface before now. Great with manual control of audio doing a one man mission. SDI, external option getting 422. And much cheaper. Save money and upgrade my red epic to dragon and extra media.
