Thank you very much to

Jim Jannard from RED.com, Inc.,

Amnon Band from Band Pro Film & Digital and

Dr. Andreas Kaufmann Managing Director of ACM Project Development and majority owner of Leica Camera AG

for a great deal about the package set of Leica Summilux-C Prime Lenses with a RED Epic camera.

Finally they've got together at NAB 2011.

Thank you very much........for a great deal about the package set of Leica Summilux-C Prime Lenses with a RED Epic camera.

What is the great deal? I did not see any base price and tech specs on the lenses at the press conf.!
Do you have any extra info or a link?
Thanks,

What is THE PACKAGE and How Much is it Sanjin??

Probably RED EPIC-M with 21, 35, 40, 50 and 75mm T1.4 Leica Summilux-C primes.

Keep in mind that Epic-M costs at RED Store $58.000 and five Leica primes about $100.000

that means the package set of Leica Summilux-C Prime Lenses with a RED Epic camera could cost about $150.000.

I'm not an official RED or BandPro source or representative so don't take this as a final price.

It's just a speculation.

Sanjin, cheers indeed! We're all very excited about the new partnership with Red. At the moment we don't have finalized pricing on packages, or the focal lengths that will be included in the set. But we've got some time to figure it out. New orders of Epic/Leica packages won't take precedence over existing orders, and since both products are heavily backordered, no uber rush.

I am curious for some feedback though. What's everyone's idea of the ideal focal lengths for the 5 lens set, given the existing focal lengths?

16, 25, 35, 50, 75 makes the most since, but how the hell do expect us to pick just 5? :)

Exactly!

Perhaps the best thing you guys could bring to the table is to have more than one packaged deal. Say three groups, of five, six and eight primes for example. Each at some sort of discount. More options to reach more people.

I could go for 16, 25, 35, 50, 75 as well ... or perhaps 21, 35, 50, 75, 100 for those who don't need a much on the wide end. But I agree with some of the guys here, having multiple options would allow those of us buying two Epics to get all 10 of the focal lengths that will be made in the future.

No matter what, very VERY happy to hear about this partnership! :)

Thanks for the info Seth! Since I do lots of Nature I will add a 14, 18 and a 100. So my ideal set will be 14, 18, 25, 35, 40, 50, 75, 100 ...Ups 8 lenses!!...well that is what I need for my Shoot in Patagonia at the end of the year. Lots of time lapse, crane and dolly shots... and hopping to get my epic by then :-)

a 16mm lens is a 16mm lens on any camera. Its just cropped on smaller sensors.
But the FOV is wider on a sensor that is larger than s35. A 16mm on a larger sensor (Epic 5K) will be like a 14mm on RED MX (4K-super35).

Very nice and very clever move.
Good for us ;)
Greetings from Vegas!!
Cheers

quiet a few Leica's are ordered already , Lot's of people are waiting on stage 2 and stage 3. Production is getitng slower then expected.

So how will they deal with this terrific combo?? is it still a year away at least??

Yah, have to be careful to curb my excitement -- given Leica's productions speeds and Red's backlog on the Epic, this could easily be a year away :(

People should get it that the bundle package consists Epic-M (if you pay in advance all you'll get in about a month)

and five or even three Leica Summilux-C primes (they have to decide pretty soon about the number of bundled lenses)

because Leica starts shipping officially in May/June 2011 timeframe.

That means a package Epic-M + set of Leica SC primes will cost between $100.000 to $150.000 and if money is no issue than just go for one of it.

But again that's all my speculation only.

The most important thing is production, what Leica can do, to finish and produce lenses at the standard they set with the 21mm and 35mm. In the end it is really all about how fast they can crank them out. The demand is bigger than they know. A lot of people are only worried about getting their delivery a year from now. I bet that if there was something that could be done to ramp up production at no IQ compromise, the numbers would play in their favor. And I bet this discount will have an even greater positive effect on their bottom line.

A 16mm will provide a very wide FOV if you are using a 5k sensor, but a 16mm "plus the 5k bonus" is just about right for a lot of decently long shots in location interiors. It is a very powerful lens on location, both interior and exterior. Christian's 8-set is one I would feel comfortable with for location narrative. 16, 18, 25, 35, 40, 50, 75, 100 and if I could add a 9th it would be the 21mm, so heck, add two and get the 65mm with close focus. 8R and telephotos rented for special days as needed.

Perhaps Leica should figure out if there are any particularly easier lenses to produce, and try to offer all of those at the discount. Well, they have to have though of that already, of course. But there could also be a 5-set discount, 6-set discount, and perhaps one or two more packages. It might be complicated, but also very worth while by providing valuable options. What about having to buy the two or three lenses that are easiest to produce, such as a 50mm, and then each customer getting to chose the complimenting focal lengths they preferred. That sounds like a good idea. There has to be at least two or three lenses that have less aespherical elements than the rest, right? I don't know enough about it. Just brainstorming for free in hopes to help bring rental rates down.

Of course whatever set you get you will always be able to buy or rent the other lenses as needed. But if there are focal lengths not included in the bundled options, those primes will be particularly hot renters...

You know, Jannard just might be able to help them increase production within their manufacturing specifications... I've heard the guy knows a thing or two. :coolgleamA:
