Today, I was assisting at the Santa Fe Stereographic 3D Cinematography Workshop at RED Studios Hollywood.

Here we were lucky enough to get the very first public viewing of the RED EPIC ELEMENT TECHNICA ATOM 3D RIG. The ATOM is a 3d rig designed by Element Technica and Red specifically for the Red Epic. This is the very first video of the ATOM. Also included in the video is the Element Technica Neutron outfitted with the Red 2/3 Interchangeable Scarlets.

The cool thing about the RED/ET Atom rig is that they are integrating a lot of the stuff we currently hang off the rig into the rig itself. Basically a Hi5 and Gen10 are built right into the sharkfins of the rig that will allow you to send a wireless multiplexed signal out to monitors. The goal is to make a cable-less 3D rig.

Me too Ketch. I was just there but didn't know about this workshop.

Rig looks great. It should work just as well for Scarlet, right?

Scarlet will work fine on the Atom but ET makes an even smaller 3d rig called the Neutron that will be ideal for the Scarlet. Here is a video I took of the interchangeable Scarlets on the Neutron rig: http://j.mp/gameXm

Much more of a mobile solution .
What is the weight of the rig?

For Pulsar:
Under/Thru:
18.30lbs./8.30kg.
Over/Thru: 23.34lbs./10.59kg.

Impressive ATOM specs to come...

Atom weight

The bare rig weight of Atom in hand held mode is 18lbs for the beta-unit shown here. We've got a few tricks up our sleeve that will bring it down significantly from there.

It will be the most integrated, lightest and easiest-to-use system available.

Full specs and pricing coming soon. Stay tuned.

18lbs is crazy light. Great job guys. Chiropractors in Hollywood better start retiring.

Hey Stephen, welcome to the Reduser buddy!!

Can't believe you had not joined us before around here ;)

Can't wait to hear more about the Atom, general specs, camera compatibility charts etc.
Even so I was already very impressed with he Pulsar rig.

Following with great interest given I'll be launching out of the gate on my S3D short as soon as Epic is released!

Thanks for the info all!

Cheers from Japan,

Paul :)

I've seen this rig up close and personal - and now all I can say is ... are mine ready yet?

And yeah ... virtually cable free by design.

Very cool! I thought the Epic will no longer need a Gen10 and could sync to themselves, am I wrong?

Thanks Stephen for giving us a special sneak peak of this rig.
Congrats also to the ET team with the recent Alien-Prequel news. =)
