  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Epic and Scarlet...

User upgradeable would be an amazing development. In field service of the sensor just by swapping it out. The ability not only for RED to provide "modules", but potentially third parties, would be interesting. Cameras can suddenly provide back up parts for one another. That "extra" backup camera would suddenly be a whole slew of backup modules.

Also, assuming that pic does indicate a modular camera. That provides cool flexibility for usage. Being able to put split the sensor from the boards package and put one end on a jib arm and the other at the base ... and a lot of other apps like that would be really handy.
 
hahahaha this is too fun to read. i am literally two days from completing the wire transfer and waiting for my "R1" as jim called it. kinda catchy actually.
 
I for one think that Epic will have a time-reverse feature, so that if you've lost your light, Epic will just go backwards in time for 30 minutes and you can get the money shot. Hopefully Epic can come in under $30k, but I won't pay a dime over $50k for the time function, sheesh!

Cool, those are drain plugs so I'm guessing that the Epic is plumbed for liquid cooling/heating so that its operating parameters will be from -100 to +100 Celsius(-148 to 212 Fahrenheit)?:sarcasm:
 
Okay, on a serious note :-)

Jim, I'm *very* glad to hear you'll be making sure Epic and Scarlet use the same EVF/LCD, muy bueno. Also I like the possibility of Epic coming down to $30k, I dig that (I know, I know, you didnt say that, but it's possible...). Btw, do we have final confirmation that Scarlet and DSMC are one and the same?

I am beta testing that feature right now in Build19. The mystery build.

Reminds me of the old joke where this big manufacturing company worked out it would be much cheaper to replace the entire workforce with automated machines.

And before the Outraged Union guys could get a word in, they also announced that it would still be cheaper to not lay anybody off, but to go on paying them the same wages to sit at home do nothing, rather than fighting it out with the unions. All they would have to do is come in on Friday morning to collect their pay packet.

"Waidamminnit! You mean, we gotta come in EVERY Friday?!"

It also reminds me of the advertising spiel from Jim's currently Not-Favorite LCD TV manufacturer.
They keep going on about how their TVs are only about 2 inches thick, not that onscenely bloated 4 inches like everybody else!

Like, have they ever looked at the size of those 32 inch CRT sets people paid thousands of dollars for just a few years ago? And who woulda thought people would say 32 inches was on the small side?

Hmm. Goes along with my speculation at my blog. I wonder how close I am, or how completely off I am. Either way, it's a fun ride!

Oh, that's not a bug. That's the new, "user fucked-up", feature.

The Red One/Epic will be able to detect if the operator/owner is one of three types of people. If it does, it time-warps and jump-rewinds back 30 minutes.

Not to say that you're one of those three types of people, Phaz.

It is Beta, right?
