  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM

Really happy to see this! The best thing i did as a student was own my own gear and shoot all the time to supplement my education! It made the world of difference when i finally entered the pro realm. Only wish i was still a student :-)

Thanks red for being a boss!

I'm all signed up and ready to roll! Thanks Jarred, Brent and everyone at RED for this awesome opportunity!

Thanks for the support guys.. This program should help out the guys that need it the most.

I've visited some ( not enough ) schools with film programs over the years and always have walked away impressed by the passion and dedication that both the students and teachers have conveyed... no matter what tools they have at their disposal.

Unfortunately the film program always seem to be one the first places schools look at when they are trimming budgets so hopefully this little extra will help offset those cuts.

This is probably the coolest most helpful program I have ever seen a camera gear company adopt! AMAZING job on getting this created for students, faculty, and schools across the world. I can only imagine that this will have an extremely positive impact on our educational institutions, film schools, etc. I would LOVE for my students to have regular access to such wonderful equipment (they kind of do already, but this will help I am sure!) And for any film/ digital cinema program out there thats best option is a cheap DSLR camera or an outdated HVX 200...think again!

Does this apply only to people in film/RTF type programs, or any students in any program? I only ask because I know lots of kids from my school days that were doing work in non-film related majors to have something to pay the bills while actively pursuing work in the film industry at the same time.

Any Student any program, we are seeing the camera be used in many different media platforms outside of the traditional film/photo industry.

This is great for students as well as the Red brand. I am excited to see this.

Trade in / upgrade programs fall outside of this.

Just to make sure I understand, the Trade in and upgrades are still available, but under regular price (not educational pricing)... Or does it mean that once an institution signs up, it can't benefit anymore from trade in and upgrade programs on their previously purchased Scartlets and Epic-M? Knowing Red, I think I know the answer :) , but I'd like to make sure I get this straight, before I bring this up to the other faculties.

Thanks in advance,
and thanks once more for new opportunities...

They can still sign up they can still do trade-in and upgrades, there just is no educational pricing for those programs.

I just got verified. Thank you RED, once again, for being awesome and always putting the educated customer first!

This is a great step forward in all our efforts to instruct and show how simple and powerful shooting RED can be. From our very first REDucation class (I think it may have been 4 years ago or more - is that possible :-) ? ) To this effort to get more EPICs and Scarlets into the hands of more film schools and students worldwide, to those students exploring what can be done with a true digital Cinematography tool, to our very own modern movie school, REDucation X, running a full 15 week conservatory at RED Studios Hollywood where students shoot on EPIC the very first day of school, and make 15 movies in 15 weeks - we are proud to be a part of teaching and providing the right tools for the job for the next generation of movie makers worldwide.

Excellent news, thanks!
This will be an immense help with outrageously tight budgets in the art school. I'm hoping we can take advantage of the Scarlet-X to Epic-X upgrade, and eventually move to Dragon!

We are planning to add several Scarlets and at least one Epic to our current RED One, which gets almost constant use...makes me happy to see them taking advantage of the opportunity to shoot and post RED footage. This program will make a huge difference!

One group used it yesterday to shoot a Kickstarter video for an upcoming project:
