Hi,

I have been using RED16 EDL out of Avid MC to load into Monkey Extract.
It is working for 25fps edl's but I am having issues with 23.98.

I have been using the RED16 EDL in EDL manager to export a CMX3600 but this seems to strip the all important metadata of the full name. Is this right or should Monkey Extract import the RED16 EDL?

Does it need converting to CMX3600?

I don't believe Monkey supports the full 16Char as source in EDL.

The latest version supports RED16 EDL... it's not released yet, but if you contact craig at rubbermonkey,co.nz he might send you a copy :)

Thanks guys, I have just heard back from Craig @ rubbermonkey.
Thought I should pass this on:

"Monkey Extract manages to deal with the short reel names.
The only time it gets confused is when using Time of Day & a single reel is shot of more than one day.
If you use Edgecode then the timecodes shouldn't ever overlap in a single reel."

It will still be nice to have the full 16 character as source and I am glad that is being worked on. Also, we are working on another CMX 3600 pull list that will include the edgecode as as a comment in the EDL so that eventually both timecodes could be used to ensure accuracy of the conform along with the time of day timecode.

Michael

Excellent! I will send Craig a sample EDL that carries both timecodes as soon as I have one done. In the case of slow motion, etc. or just extra validation of the shot, it could come in handy.

Top work!

What are the chances of edl's being able to handle resize info on shots in later versions of Monkey? I know that this isn't possible at the moment and that they need to be done on individual shots but is it on the cards?

Peeco

The question here is whether that needs to be handled in Monkey or in the conform station. Handling it in Monkey before creating the DPX will forever bake that in leaving no flexibility in the conform system for changes.

When we do the REDCINE to ALE conversion, we do track the X/Y scale because any farther resize done in creative editorial would then be an offset to the original resposition which the conform station should be aware of.

If Monkey was being used as a dailies generator, then any cropping and offset should be declared and passed through the post production process.

I think the solution for resize will be to select certain shots and send them to Redcine rather than have redline make them. We'll be working on something soon.
