Well had a shoot last night and the DIT called me this morning and told a strange story. He was backing up files - was done with one of the drive no problem. He attached a second one clicked away a few times - tried to erase files of the RED DRIVE it self (bad DIT) and the system froze up a bit. It showed the dialog box that the file was being erased but the status bar just froze later the disk disconnected when he reconnected it again it was named RED_ONE and empty and the date of creation was 1980...

Any advice?

Using redundead to recover now.

Sounds like a corrupt filesystem. This can happen when the drive gets pulled without unmounting or the computer crashes. If two drives were put on the computer and both were bus powered then there probably wasn't enough to power both.

redundead is the best next step.

Thanks Deanan. REDUNDEAD did a great job. All is fine. Just slightly worried about the Drive hope the hardware part is fine.
