  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Drive RC limitation

Your best bet is to plug it into a computer via the R2E cable and test its maximum sustainable write speed. To be conservative, you should expect slightly less impressive results than you get on a test.

And what is the math for writing speed in relate to Red Code?

Considering we don't even know what the new REDCODE numbers mean, as it's been said they are not MB/s in the same sense, it will be hard to say what will work for what. RED may not even have these answers yet until they get prototype Epic/Scarlet cameras shooting with various media.

Craig, if your RED Drive is topping out at less than 42MB/s, there is something wrong. How are you testing?

Moving forward, the RED Drive and RED RAM are currently the fastest media available. It will be interesting to see what happens when the TATTOO program starts.

I have heard of only SSD and Flash type storage for the Epic. I assume it's due to the fact they can do higher data speeds.

Maybe with lesser resolution, frame-rates and redcodes the Epic might be able to use the drives. I hope so, I have 8 of the suckers!
