Hi Everyone,

i posted this earlier but i believe it was in the wrong forum.

I have some footage on a red drive which is playable and viewable from the camera. However when i connect the drive to my computer the computer does not recognise the drive.

I have tried using redundead but this doesnt recover the files.

Any ideas on what i can do?

Thanks

Tunji

Have you tried plugging it in using different ports. I've had the FW800 port go out on one of my drives and I've had to deal with rental drives which wouldn't mount on FW800 or FW400 leaving me with just USB. Also, it's always a good idea to make sure the power lead is plugged into the drive.

Thanks everyone,

I was able to read the drive using the windows window on my mac, once read in windows the drive was visible on the mac even though i couldnt access the files.
however I am now recovering the files using REDundead.

Thanks red for redundead.

I recently had two 640GB drives with the same problem on my Macbook Pro. They were fine with build 17, but once I used them on a camera with Build 21 they wouldn't mount on the Mac anymore except USB.

I didn't have time to trouble shoot the problem so I sent the drives back to the rental house. I was already a couple days into a feature, so I didn't want to change firmware on the camera.

Made a mistake earlier, recovered the wrong drive so im back to the beginning. Drive is viewable from disk utility on FW800 but cant access data. redundead doesnt seem to respond.

There is a software tool to read from Devices instead of Volumes, There is an enormous difference between a Device and a Volume. This will give you permission to read from the device on any operating system it is connected to. Everytime this happens to some random piece of media This always fixes the Magazine. This software also supports recovery of .r3d media from Devices. You must know a little about the command line prompt to run this software.

Redundead only works with Volumes, Thats why its unhelpful in most situations.
