Hi, can anyone help with my problem of the RED Drive freezing when the record button is pushed to stop recording.
Drive freezes and viewfinder indicated POST.......I then have to powerdown the camera and restart.
Seems to be very random and only shooting short scenes, 30secs or so.
The drive is brand new and first time using, CF cards have been fine.
Build 17 and all firmware updates done.
Serial#2750
Any clues would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the POST issue. Try turning the QT proxies off - there's a checkbox in the menu system.

Thanks David, i will give that a go. There were problems with the proxies.
I will want the proxies of course so does this mean i have to use CF cards to record them?

If the issue is your camera hanging on POST then the problem rests more with the creation of the QT proxies when the camera stops recording, rather than with the type of media you record to (as far as I can work out). In my experience turning the QT proxies off is a viable work-around for the POST issue, irrespective of media.

Do you absolutely need the QT proxies? If they are anything but completely necessary I'd disable them - the less work you get the camera to do the less chance you have of something messing up.

Best of luck mate.

Hi, I was 1sting on a short with a red, build 17 i think, last week and experanced the same problem of the camera freezing while posting while on hard drive. Didn't happen on cards. I swiched off QT proxies, changed the cable, made no differance. Would lose 2nd half of takes. Waited a few minutes then rebooted. Seemed to happen randomly. We lost a lot of performances, very, very anoying..
Anyway any ideas what the problem was??
Cheers,
Niall

Is the disk filled up close to its maximum? We run into similar problems as we use the last 10% of the drive, so we try to empty it whenever possible. That solves it for us so far.
