Had one of my Red Drives (320GB) fail during a shot (wouldn't complete writing the file). Rebooted and tried to reformat the drive. Failed three times. Another user suggested formatting on a computer to wipe the disk clean. They felt that a camera format left corruptions in place (perhaps).

Is if advisable to format the drive using a Mac? If so, what flavor of format is appropriate?

you can reformat the drive as anything on the mac, hfs or ms dos. when u plug it back into the red it will want to reformat it anyway. if it doesn't work on your mac, try a pc.

If you do, do it fat32, same format as it is now. I would say you probably have a bad drive or bad drive cable though, Travis what usually causes these problems. If you have another drive cable I would try to format in camera again with that first.
