  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Drive does not show in finder

Try to re-partition the drive. In Disk Utility, if you select the drive on the left, click on the partition tab near the top of the window. there you can specify the partition to be MS-DOS FAT and under options you can choose to zero out all your free space. If it won't let you partition, then the drive will probably need to be serviced or replaced, depending on what's wrong with it. From the prices Iv'e seen quoted for repairs from RED, I would probably just replace it (still under 90-day warranty??).

Don't worry about using the terminal if you don't know how. It doesn't really give you a whole lot more functionality, it's just a lot of us geeks like to roll like that.

You could always try a diagnostic software like DiskWarrior or similar, but they don't tend to work that well and can't control the drives directly for real diagnostics, due to the internal RAID controller.

2.If the Red drive is showed up in disk utility, but the READUNDEAD doesn't work, try to format the drive once(only format, not erase data!!!). Most of time, after formatting, the drive will show up on the desktop. Then use READUNDEAD again.

Yang,

What do you mean format, not erase data? So I just go into my camera, go into the media menu, and press format? How can I 'erase data' in camera?

I have 2 RED DRIVE.
Both drives have same trouble.
I can't mount via e-sata(cool cameragear),fw800 on MACPRO though handled most carefully.
So work fine via Fw400 and USB、though handled most carefully.
I tried all methods that at first AC adapter ,reboot mac,,,,,,.
It worked fine all port while few months I have had .
I think many many users have same troubles,is it fault of manufacturing or red drive firmware issue?
Help us RED TEAM!!!

It could be an issue with the raided disks of the red drive itself. whatever hardware raid they are using in it might be the conflict. There are well known cases of raid arrays suddenly "disappearing" from OSX. Nothing wrong with the drives, enclosure or connections, it was just a small bug or conflict in the portion that's raiding the disks and OSX stops seeing it all together. Unique and funky by the system and drive. It's a strange phenomenon but it does happen. Which explains why certain drives are working on some systems and not others...

Bomb Squad, Help!, tell us your take.

I think I have heard that there was/is a firmware update for the drives?

Is the eSata/cool camera gear option no longer working? Mine seems to no longer work on OSX 10.6 and new tower

Thanks much,
Rich
