When trying to load a couple certain video files off my Red Drive onto my mac, the transfer slows way down, and then the Drive shuts off, I get the "Ejected improperly" message, and the "File can't be copied..." message.

Out of 119 total video files, it only happens on 3 of them...

I can play the file up to the point where the transfer oddly slowed down and crashed (and somehow the Drive shuts itself off), but on the last frame of playback, it becomes black, white, and magenta right before it cuts off...

Anyone else experience this?

I've tried both using the Firewire ports and the USB port to transfer and the same thing happens at the same moment/clip.

Try duplicating (command-D) the files on the Red drive

After you've already downloaded all the files that will download, of course

This happened once years ago...

My solution was that I copied everything to that point where the drive crapped itself, then i started the file after...

I managed to save everything except for 1/2 a clip...

Not sure if this will help, but ... worth a try. In a recent SecurityNow podcast, it was mentioned that running spinrite in level 1 (where it only reads, does NOT write), can sometimes force the flash chip to re-assign a bad sector.

They have a money back guarantee, so ... there's little downside.

Just be sure you NEVER run it at a higher level, as the flash drive cells are only good for a certain # of writes, and you can destroy a drive by 'testing' it.

Thanks for the feedback.
Honestly though, I'm less worried about those 3 clips that got cut off and more wondering if this means my Drive is dead or dying. Would it be risky to use the drive again? Will the drive more than likely corrupt more files, or could this just have been a fluke maybe from frames dropping or a loose cable?

Simple answer?
Scary

If you wanna know:
Run a test

Record to the drive (the sky, your backyard or whatever) untill it fills up and try to offload...

Thanks Gunleik.

I will run a test, I'm just wondering though if anyone else have had this happen, and if they had a consistent repeat of the same problem with the same drive after it happened.
