Can you connect the Red Drive to a computer and does the computer read the drive successfully. If not, try formatting the drive on the computer, followed by a format on the camera.
If the computer reads the drive OK, but the camera does not, try swapping the Red drive cable - 9 times out of 10 it is a faulty cable that is to blame. Hopefully you have at least one spare Drive Cable?

Check the CF cards on a computer, and again, does the computer read the CF card successfully? If not, try formatting the card on the computer, followed by a format on the camera.
If the computer reads the CF card OK, inspect the CF card module on the camera for broken or bent pins. There should be no gaps or missing pins, although a couple of the pins may be longer than the others. Missing or bent pins will probably mean the Side CF module will have to go back to Red for repair.
If the computer does NOT read the CF card, then use a bright light and magnifying lens to check the CF card connector - I had a card die due to one of the contacts falling out or being pushed into the body of the card. Unfortunately this can't be fixed.

Also raise a support ticket with your Red Bomb Squad representative.

Each time you change framerates in project you should format the dive and Cf in camera or it willnot recognise the drives and CF...

That's only when changing the Project Timebase framerate. No need to format a drive or CF card when changing the Record framerate.

Even if he was changing Project Timebase, the camera would just indicate incompatible settings, not fail to recognise that media was attached.

after formatting in computer, red don't recognized drive and CF
in your advice, i must chage the frame rate in which format????

Hi Jonah

Hopefully you have already filed a Red Support Ticket and/or contacted your Red Bomb Squad Representative?
http://www.red.com/contact_us

Just to check:
Apart from not recognising attached media, does the camera appear to be working OK otherwise? Ie you can control all the settings like ISO, resolution, colour temperature etc, and can see changes in your displays?

You are using Red brand CF cards and Drive cables?

When you format the Red Drive and Red CF card on the computer, do they appear as drives on your computer? Try writing a video file (does not have to be a Red file) onto them from the computer, and then play back. Does that work? If so, then your Red Drive and CF card are probably working OK.

Then I would suspect the Red Drive cable and the Red One Side CF Module - you've already tried swapping Drive cables (were they both new or secondhand?). Did you look for damaged/missing pins in the camera CF module?
Assuming both cables look undamaged (no missing/bent pins or overly kinked cable), and no damaged/missing pins in the camera CF module, this indicates the camera body is the common problem, so yes a re-install of firmware may solve it.

First you could try a System Restore on the camera:
On the camera body Select System Button > Maintenance > Restore > System, and confirm you want to proceed. Wait for the "Successfully Restored Settings" message, and click OK.

If that fails, you can try re-installing firmware:

As instructed on Appendix A: Upgrading Camera Firmware. Pages 114 to 117 of the Red One Build 31 Operations Guide, go to:
https://www.red.com/downloads

log in and redownload a fresh copy of Red One Firmware v31.6.16.

Decompress the downloaded firmware and copy the "UPGRADE" folder to an empty formatted CF card, Red Drive or SD card, or USB storage device. As you can't format the Drive or CF card on the camera, you'll have to use an SD card or USB storage device (formatted as FAT32) into the tiny SD slot on the bottom left hand side of the camera, or the USB connector on the right side of the camera.

Power the camera from a fresh fully charged battery or from the AC mains power adapter. Attach the SD card or USB storage to the computer.

Then on the camera body, Select System Button > Maintenance > Update SW and confirm in the message that appears.

Good luck.

in your advice, i must chage the frame rate in which format????

Don't worry about this - it's not the cause of your problem.

On the Red One M/MX, each Red Drive, SSD card or CF card can only be formatted with one selected Project Timebase Framerate (the framerate that recorded footage will play back at).
This is NOT the same as the Record Framerate. You can have multiple clips on the same Drive/SSD/CF card all with different Record Framerates. But they will all play back at the Project Timebase Framerate that the media was formatted with.

IF the Record framerate is made the same as the Project Framerate, as normal, then footage will be recorded as realtime and you can record sound.
If the Record framerate is higher or lower than the Project Timebase framerate, then the camera is in Varispeed mode and recorded footage will play back slower or faster than realtime, and no sound will be recorded.

That makes kinda sense...
You. Must format media on the cam...

Ah yes - after successfully formatting the media on the computer, the media should appear as "Disk Unformatted" to the camera. You should then format the media on the camera.
But I've been assuming you aren't seeing this status on the camera.

If you are seeing this "Disk Unformatted" status, then on the camera, select System button > Media > Format, and confirm if necessary. See Page 120 of the Red One Operations Guide.

Hi
I try format on the cam as you say but the cam don't recognized the drive, I have 2 drive, 4 cf card but nothing

hm... did you format to FAT32 on the PC?

I have seen that cards that are not recognized (after being formatted in a DSLR) may have to be reformatted to FAT32 on a computer before the cam recognizes them and lets you format.

Download r3d data manager (you need it anyway if you're doing a feature), try to format from that application, insert card/disk, format in cam.

You lose neccesary metadata on the disk/card, when you format on a Pc, but the r3d data manager can write the right data.

Why did you format on a computer in the 1st place?

:)

Best of luck

I'm 99.9999% certain something internal has to be fixed or replaced. This happened to me with my Red Drives and it turns out the SATA card needed to be replaced. I would talk to Red and snd your camera in ASAP. It only took like a total of 4 days for me to send my camera in, they fixed it and overnighted it back to me. Like I said your situation sounds almost dead on to mine a couple weeks back. Contact RED

where can i download Download r3d data manager???
so on computer, you purpose me to format on FAT32??? ok

While I agree that that is a possibility, IF he's been formatting the media externally to something non-FAT32, the camera will not see the disks, pretty much as he describes.
And also with a random external formatting, the camera won't recognize it as red media (even if it is to
32) because of the lack of metadata. In this latter case it "should" still be possible to format the media, though.

Jonah. If you did not format as FAT32 on the computer, then you aren't reading the advice we've been giving you carefully enough. Both myself and Gunleik have said that you need to format media as FAT32 if doing it on the computer.

Ok, I'm waiting r3d data manager to begin formating, I tell you how about tomorrow. Thank you
