Red dragon: full frame...

Hello all, how are you?

When you look at the specification of the Red scarlet Dragon (and epic too), we see a debit difference between "full frame" and 2:4:1 ration (48fps in full frame, 60fps in 2:4:1),
what does this "full frame" really means compared to a real full frame sensor? What is 2:4:1 and how does it compare with "full frame" and 4,5kws from Mx (i know it's an old format but that's the only one i know as i own a Red Mx)..

The full frame on the red camera refers to using the entire sensor. But if you want to see crop factors compared to 35mm still cameras, check out www.RED.com/tools.

"Full frame" refers to the full sensor area of the Dragon (or whichever camera we are referencing). People often confuse this terminology with "35mm full frame," as that has become the common reference benchmark amongst DSLR cameras which use the entire (or most of) the 35mm 36x24mm film area. But "full frame" is terminology used across all camera systems with variable image frame sizes.

The Dragon sensor has a pixel resolution of 6144x3160 and each pixel is square with dimensions of 5um, that's microns or 0.005mm. So the sensor is 30.72mm x 15.8mm and has an aspect ratio of 1.94:1.

2.4:1 would be a pixel resolution of 6144x2560, which is 30.72mm x 12.8mm

If you are getting to 2.4:1 via anamorphic lenses, then this all changes and it depends on whether you're using 1.3X or 2X anamorphic lenses and there are 2X anamorphic modes in the camera.

Not sure which crop factor you are looking for here.
