  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED domain names FS

Zakaree and Joel - Point taken...

But how about from a legal/litigation point of view?

Copyright law is the wild west. I don't think a copyright attorney could come on here and post a definitive answer. Personally, I'd just avoid the word RED.

The gentlemen of RED have posted their position which is essentially - "please don't use RED in your domain names or businesses related to motion picture capture".

I'm sure I'll be corrected if that's a substantially incorrect interpretation of their position.

agree with Joel,
do it out of respect for RED, because they have asked to not have companies use it in company name or domain name..

legally.. its a battle for both sides, that your better off staying out of

I simply had a load of domain names that i had purchased in my account at 123-reg, where i registered my company domain name. I bought them before my RED arrived about 18 months ago and registered each of them for 2 years. At the time i was struggling to think of a name for my new company, so covered my bases by buying a load of different domains, of coarse they are soon coming up for renewal, so i thought i would see if anyone had any interest in them, i never imagined it would make me a millionaire, it was just to try and get my money back. In the end i set my company up with a different title altogether Indie Film Ltd, which i rather like :wink5: .

Thanks everyone for the info, but it really isn't an issue for me, the domains can lapse as far as i am concerned. Although i think you are correct chris, if everyone behaved in a manner like suggested , no-one would be able to trade, every name would be battened down. Like manopoly. lol.

There are obviously some who are allowed to use red in their domain-names or company names - like Dino G who's using red31.com - so if in doubt you should ask RED for permission.
