  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Digital SLR

Can you explain further what your saying? doesn't the D70 have a smaller aps-c sized sensor? I know that might be comparable to the red's sensor, but I know you also shoot a lot of film, I thought that an 18 on a 535 had a different fov than on a d70.

35mm motion picture film normally travels vertically in the camera, thus using what on a 35mm still camera would be considered the short edge. Standard 35mm when recorded is around 22mm wide on the film, while Super35 is a bit over 24mm wide since it gets rid of the optical soundtrack space.

The DX format sensor in a D70 is approximately 24mm wide, so you have a sensor width ever so slightly less than the look around/soon-to-be-enabled 2.40:1 area on the RED One sensor.

Thanks for pointing out my lack of including that adapter Stephen, I didn't know it existed.

-Nikon D-70 Sensor size: 23.7 x 15.5 mm

-Red One Sensor Size: Listed as: 24.4mm x 13.7mm
I believe (please correct me if I'm wrong) that size is based on the recordable pixel range which some of are used for the look-around? 4,520 x 2,540. While 4K full sensor is listed as 4,096 x 2,304. Mathematically speaking that would result in 22.1mm x 12.4mm of actually used sensor size in that resolution.

- 4 Perf Super35 Full Aperture is 24.8x18.7mm while only 24mm of it gets used in the various aspect ratios horizontally (1.85 is 24mm x 12mm)

- 4 Perf Academy Aperture is 22mm x 16mm

-Full Size 35mm still sensors are based on still cameras which are 8 Perf. and are much larger at 36x24 mm. There is Vista Vision 8Perf format usually reserved for VFX plates that comes in at 37.7x24.9mm and the film travels sideways as it does with a still camera.

UNINFORMED NONSENSE

B: Why would you want to shlep around a set of expensive Primes or a large Zoom when an inexpensive wide Range automatic still Zoom will do just fine?

i just make a letter box with my two hands and close one eye.. its cheap and gets my point across .. (that im trying to look like a film maker)

A PL mount lightweight, digital viewfinder (i.e. to do what I do now with my Nikon, but with the real lenses, frame size and dynamic range) is something I have wished for. Doubt it fits well into anybody's business plans though.
