Camera Essentials has a few of the Desert Dust Covers in stock right now. We are using white medical 'Barrier' fabric that is BREATHABLE and water resistant. This cover can be washed and is anti-soiling and anti-static. The Desert Cover is fairly modular - and it can accomodate both primes and mid-range zoom lens'. I will be making another version for a long zoom lens in the future.

The camera's vent is on the bottom. The intake is also on the bottom, but on the other side. Air is drawn in one side, over the internal heatsink at the top of the body (where the internal heat has risen) then pushed out through the bottom again.

We bought the camrade desert suit a while back, but it actually seems to make the camera hotter, unless im doing something wrong.

Just finished a 2 day shoot in the middle of the desert. temperature was well over 40 degrees, and was the first time I saw the body hot panic button. Seeing as it got to 52 degrees here last summer, any help in cooling the camera down would be fantastic for the months to come. (wecurrently have to break for 15 minutes and put the camera in a landcruiser with all the AC vents pointed straight at it before it stops panicking!)

Hello Andrew,

Could you please contact me regarding the desertSuit at rene@camrade.com

With the desertSuit you can leave the bottom open when there is no sand storm ofcourse and 2nd you can use cooling elements in the top pouch, this is from the same material as the raincover and is completely waterproove. you can use this to cool the camera down. The ET cover looks also very nice and will have the same problem unless there is a sort of airconditioning build inside ;-)

When you put any cover around a camera the heat will have difficulties to get away but you also want to protect this from dust.

We have tested the covers in the desert between dubai and Abu dhabi, it becomes very hot there !
