  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red.com online camera builder

I first thought this builder looked great, but thinking about it, it will disapoint many buyers after the purchase of the packages.

Lots of things in the package are not really useful, or industry standard. Red shoulder system for instance and the Quick release system are far from ideal.
As a first time buyer or rookie, if I were lead to buy it with a easy and nice looking builder, showing a big cinema kit, I would get it. But after few use, I would sell it and
would be kind of pissed to have bought it in the first place.

A good builder is too useful to be that "empty".it has to be more customizable.
It will reduce sale of other items and pollute the used marketplace, and upset customers about the money spent for nothing.

I agree with the approach taken - BUT - I think you will find that MANY people will use this instead of even looking through your catalog - so ... I suspect you might see a drop in sales in the items not listed in the builder.

Maybe ... in each category ... there is a button for ADDITIONAL OPTIONS - and that button would just open a list - with hyperlinks - to items not highlighted in the builder -

Just thinking out loud here .... but because it is "clean" and "easy to use" - and most important - "less overwhelming" - I think you will start to see all your traffic move to the builder - away from the actual shop listings.

Fair enough. The good thing is we can track this data and make adjustments as needed.

Looks great!

Quick heads up though. I tried to build a quick test package on iOS, and accidentally added the wrong lens mount. When I tried to remove it, it instead added a second. I repeated, and it added a third.

I then tried leaving the page and coming back, and finally it allowed me to remove it, however after it removed one, the button changed back to "add" even though there were still two in my cart. I had to wait until I finished the entire build to remove them manually.

I have let web team know to check out.

Again, we know everyone has an opinion on what is the “right” package. So, we did go off of historical sales data, off of polling folks who had both used old ARMORY to purchase AND who started to use it, and abandoned it, off of conversations with dealers.

We took that data and created packages representing high-frequency purchases. Sure, may not work for you, Bérenger, but we are going for 80/20 rule here, because 100/100 is a unicorn and does not exist. Cannot please everyone all the time…

And, as data shifts based on new product, we can adjust accordingly.

Hi Brent, can you ask the web team about another change? In the store drop down, the New Releases option is missing. (Has been for a while) If you click on the store button, then there is a New Releases option on the store home page. The New Releases in drop down is something I used a lot.

I remember when I was figuring out what RED camera to buy and how this guide would of made my decision so much easier.

So the Epic Dragon is gone?

I never really had a problem to configure my Epic MX back in the early stage 4 days. I did my homework, and honestly, only bought extra media, batteries, a lemo cable since.

I can certainly understand this will help new purchasers, but really, when purchasing an equipment of this calibre, I would figure people would do more research?

I remember when I purchased my Epic, professional friends who worked on a Red One said that it was "impossible" to use on Guerrilla scenarios and it would need at least one assistant or 2 to make it work. This type of misinformation can get to you if you don't do your own research.

The "overcomplicated" stamp that people erroneously label Red needs to be countered. I think you guys did a good job with these. I would suggest add small videos, GIFS of each individual package for quick visual reference for everyone. I know it sounds cheesy and definitely very hard to pull off, but maybe add an operator with each configuration at hand. How to make this look "Red" is a challenge up to you guys!

Very nice! That'll help stay organized. Two thoughts:

It'd be nice to have a visualizer so that you could actually see which accessories you have and haven't added.

It'd be nice to make the packages optional and have an "a la carte" page where I can add modules and accessories individually. Of course, without the visualizer that's not enormously more helpful than the regular store other than helping you stay organized. I know there's an "add on" page but there are only a handful of things there and it's really more accessories like OLPFs and warranties than the monitors and modules you'd want on the "a la carte" page.
