  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red.com online camera builder

Tried it out with adding very basic kit into the cart, and I noticed that the DSMC2 BASE PACKAGE includes both "DSMC2 V-Lock Battery Module" + "DSMC2 Base Expander". Why not just have the DSMC2 V-LOCK I/O EXPANDER ? Seems more expensive to me.

This is a pretty awesome idea! But I personally prefer to build my bundle from the ground (separate modules etc.), and not to be forced to choose between assigned accessories packages which not fit my needs.

Adam, we have based the package decisions on customer feedback and currently trending sales data. A lot of folks prefer the flexibility of being able to de-couple power module from I/O.

Exactly. This is just an option and the standard a la carte from ground up option is not going anywhere. And when using the builder, you can edit quantities and items once you pop them in your cart. You are not “forced” to buy anything as a bundled package.

In the instance above Adam speaks off, you can add the basic accessory kit, then delete the BASE I/O Expander and the V-Lock Battery Module and instead add Base V-Lock Expander instead with your cart.

I think the idea is good but it does not work for most of the folks IMO.
E.g. drone/gimbal package, most of the stuff is not neccessary. Taking drone as an example, you want to keep it simple and light as possible. Jetpack and Sidekick plus media and ideally a flexible Lemo power cord with either Tap or (better) open end for self soldering the plug you want. I don't need touch screen monitor because video will be downlink wirelessly to SmallHD and farm village. And foolcontrol makes it very easy too. Even for gimbal work, keep it light. your arms and shoulder will thank you.

Of course I can delete all the items individually but it is cumbersome (especially there are so many items in the bundle you really don't need).
Suggestion: why not pop up all the items related to that bundle and let us tick what we want? Makes the process easier, instead of goint to the end and then deleting one by one later.

Thai, thanks for the input. Again, our packages were based on a lot of sales data. These packages are not intended to be exactly dialed in for each and every person's exact preferred set up. Consider these "examples" and "starting points" from where you can dial in your ideal kit. Sure, they work as is, but you can refine them.

You may not need a touch screen, but there are plenty of people running around with handheld gimbals rocking them.

You are welcome, Brent! :-)
How about separating drone and gimbal? I still believe these have two different needs.
Also I think foolcontrol has slightly changed user behavior. At least for me :-)

But all in all, great stuff! Keep pushing.

Ha, yeah, we can always iterate on the packages, it is pretty flexible. We are really trying to streamline and wanted as few package options as possible to simplify the process. Like someone mentioned earlier, this is really for the benefit of newer customers so they have a more foolproof way to order without missing a critical item that makes their camera operable. For seasoned vets like many of you, we fully expect you to be more a la carte approach....

Yeah, I remember recieving my Raven Package only to remember mini-mag station isn't in the package and had a next day booking:banghead:. Thanks for this, hopefully it will help new comers

I love it.

Just add an option to build a package without any I/O module - for dealers and customers that want OMODs or other third party options :)
