Hey Gibby,

I have a new chamois, wheel brush and lemon scented air fresheners. :shifty:

LOL...a good throwback to another thread! Everything's clean and cool...

That could be arranged...

I'm familiar with you and your personality, but I think you're over the line with that comment Jay. Connecting my name to racially degrading comments doesn't fly with me, smiley face emoticon or not....and yes Jarred and the moderators will back me up on that.

I can joke with the best of them, but using my name with that phrase is not appreciated. OK?

I smiled through your sarcastic comment toward me in your post #10 of this thread...but I'm not smiling now.

Holy crap.... I'm sorry Gibby.. Honestly... I had forgotten that some people took that person's comment seriously. I did not, while the comment itself was uncalled for when said by you know who, it was everyone else who used it to push their own agenda that caused me to not take it seriously.

The woman that raised me was an african american, so I do not recognize racial slurs very well, to me an insult is an insult, attaching skin color or sexual preference should not make it "worse" as that in itself is calling attention to our differences. I do not take words very seriously, rather the intent behind them.

Every comment I have made with you was made in the spirit of friendship and good humor, but clearly you have some lines that are dangerous and cannot be crossed. Therefore I will no longer joke with you on any level rather than risk stepping on the live mines.

I'll keep the jokes with those who I know and know me better.

Boy I feel stupid. I am very sorry. You will not hear indirectly from me again

Jay A. Kelley

Jay, it looks like you're getting fired without anybody even misquoting you!

:)

Thanks Jay...

I do feel like I understand you, and I have really enjoyed your sense of humor. This is a worldwide community and some things are simply better of left unsaid.

It's water under the bridge now. I have the ability to move on quickly. As far as I'm concerned, we're definitely friends.

Cheers...

If by "coming soon" you mean "After Camera Ships" then I agree with you. If you mean before the camera ships, I fail to see the purpose of the forum.

The art of Cinematography cannot be practiced on a camera that does not yet exist for the masses.

Jay

Unless someone has a question that is not too specific to the RED camera, like how to light some woods at night, how to track through an open car window, etc.

How Do You light Woods at night? I am actually filming a night scene in the woods later this month and this would interest me...

Not scary but, walking home after a nice date small town vibe...

Anyone???

Exactly, I'd love to share techniques and help anyone or receive help when in need. Cinematography doesn't have to be a RED only topic.

I like the people on these boards and wouldn't mind hearing their input.

It'd also be nice to have people post clips of their work or things of that sort and a new cinematography forum would be the perfect place to do so.

To add, there are 52 people in favor of the idea and 7 who are either nocturnal creatures who despise light or they just thought it'd be cute to say no.

Exactly, David just made a post in 'Off-Topic' that needs to be a sticky immediately. But where? It needs a new section as the post is about Cinematography, but is not Red-specific.

Well, first you have to imagine how the scene would ideally look in your mind -- are they walking in moonlight? Under warm streetlamps? It always helps if you can justify light sources in the scene.

Second thing is, what are your options for powering the lights?

Well it seems we're talking about two separate forums.. One is RED cinematography (Which I thought the poll was about) and now we've evolved into a "Cinematography in general" forum which happens to live on the REDUser.net site....

Hmmm... Last I checked there was another site with a similar name, but I have to admit, the people there are a bit "different" from what we have here.

Up to now I have not voted in this thing, but if you all believe it's cool, and David is open to it, then it gets my vote!

My deal is this, anything can happen in 9 days. I am not looking at much until I know where Jim sees everything going.

But what the hell... If you guys want it... I'm in!

Moonlight definitely. We are renting a 3 ton grip truck with a couple of 2k's and 1k HMI's. I also have my Tungsten kit which includes an arri 300,650,and 1k fresnels. Bounce cards and various china balls available if needed...

Generator is a 3 Phase 200 AMP Genny.

I voted 'No' just for the fun of it. I wish there were better alternatives to obvious answers in polls in general.

This site is like crack, so not having to go to other ones to get answers designed to shed light on shedding light is a no-brainer.

I voted "no" since there is no reason to diffuse the access to information about cinematography by creating an exclusive RED presence addressing the subject. Cinematography.com is an excellent resource with a professional bent that strives to avoid fandom and trollers alike. I would rather discuss the RED One amongst that community of august peers and mentors.

...that is, once there is actually a camera to discuss.

Michael

^^^

That might be true, but I'd rather discuss cinematography as it relates to the Red camera, among other Red users.

I don't feel it's required to have to go to another site for cinematography-related discussions, not to mention getting blasted by "white" after getting accustomed to the darker color scheme of reduser.net.

It's about the people.. And my experience on C.com with RED has been mostly negative. Professional or not, I do not enjoy my time there, or all the infighting. I prefer a "nicer" place to exchange ideas.. This is why I support the idea of a cinematography site here. The people are interested in learning, debateing, but they almost ALWAYS respect one another.

The truth is, I don't know what a "professional" is..I am in my 40s and I have been doing this for 22 years. I think I am a pro by some standards (I make a living) and an amature by others (I have not shot a 3mil or larger movie).

I believe if the exchanges regarding RED were more pleasent on C.com, this suggestion would not have seen the light of day cause we'd all be other there.

This is not the case.

Yup, I was referring to a Cinematography in general forum, not a RED specific Cinematography forum.

When RED is released though, I'd hope that this will be the premiere spot to exchange shooting tips specific to RED, I find that comforting.

I think the idea is that many of us here are very obsessed with and interested in cinematography, and since this forum has such a nice early stable of people who know something about it, or are very passionate about cinematography, that a new sub-forum here at reduser would get a lot of use.

I could talk cinematography and photography all day!
