  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Cine-X & GTX780 on Mac

Also - using a non-flashed card on a Mac Pro; am I losing any performance vs getting Flashed? I know I can't access the boot screens with a non-flashed card but as far as RCX; Premiere, AE, or Resolve am I missing out on anything?

Just curious if anyone one else if using a non-flashed GTX780 on a Mac Pro and what settings are you choosing in RCX for the Graphics Card - Open CL or CUDA?

I'm still trying to get my head around RCX.

Thanks

Tommy

Hey, if you are using an nVdia card you have to use CUDA as Open CL is for ATI cards.

While nVidia cards typically perform far better in CUDA than OpenCL, they do work. Some non-flashed nVidia cards do initially boot as PCIe1.0 devices (which limits throughput), but I have been able to use web drivers to get them PCIe2.0 compliant. In some setups you will want to switch the card from OpenCL to CUDA when going between RCX and AdobeCC - and avoid having them both open at once. Be aware that the OS you are running, the choice of native vs vendor drivers and which software you run all can change the equation. Clear as mud...

Good to know about avoiding having RCX and Adobe CC open at the same time - thank you. Right now I'm running Mavericks but seriously thinking about upgrading to El Capitain.

Perhaps its better now, but the usual issue is that once the GPU is in CUDA mode to work with AdobeCC (or other CUDA friendly apps) it's "stuck" there even when you open RCX which is looking for OpenCL resources - and vice versa, once it's toggled to OpenCL in RCX, then you can't access the CUDA cores in AdobeCC. Newer versions of RCX and OS X may be able to toggle automatically, but if you are getting weak performance I would definitely check.
