Red Cine X Crashing With Red Rocket

I have just installed a Red Rocket into a brand new 8-Core Mac Pro. It is in Slot 2 the 16x Slot. I have removed my Matrox MXO2 Mini Card.

I utilized the newest drivers and successfully updated the firmware to 1.1.8.6
In both RedCine-X Build 242 and Avid Media Composer 5.0.3.4 as soon as the rocket is accessed it causes a full system crash. Crashes to the Mac Grey Screen of Death. This happens when we try to Transcode in AVID or REDCINEX. In addition it happens even when trying to play out a clip in REDCINEX.

I am currently downloading Build 340. To try that.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I'm having similar issues, though I'm not using Avid. Playback, GSOD crash, transcode, GSOD crash. I installed 340 this afternoon, Have had two GSOD crashes afterwards.

Doing a complete system rebuild. Wish I had an answer for you, not just echoing your problems with more of the same.

So I still have no answers, but an update...

I just wiped my system, did a fresh OSX install on a new boot disc, lean and mean with crucial system software only. (boot disc is about 30GB) Now running 10.6.3, RCX 340, Rocket, eSATA, GT120. Reset PRAM, re-seated all cards, drives, memory.

Just playing clips back this morning, GSOD. Twice. I sent my crash reports off to RED right away. I wonder if I have a RAM/ROCKET issue.

Hi Chris,

I'm sorry to hear you are still having troubles. You can rule out the rocket being the issue right away by running RCX in non-rocket mode.

As always please send full logs to redcinex at red dot com.

David

I did send them right away, though to someone @ Red who responded earlier. I'll send again. If I get a moment the following weekend to test w/o the Rocket, I will. I may have to live with the crashes until then.

Chris,

We got your emails.

In the meantime, if you edit

/Library/Application Support/red/RedCineX/Preferences/Preferences.ini

and under the section that says

[Rocket]
use=true

change this to

[Rocket]
use=false

You should be able to start RCX up with no accesses to the Rocket card.
This is just a quick way of testing it without having to manually remove the card.

Okay I'll try that out and see what happens ASAP.

Thanks for the help. So based on your text I'm guessing that others with similar machine configurations are having similar issues? What kind of general "issue?" I only experience these crashes while using RCX.

Just hoodwhit and yourself. Since the issue is happening for hoodwhit in both Avid and RCX it doesn't seem like a RedCine-X issue. We will continue to trouble shoot the issue with you via email.

I did this, but can I also achieve the same thing by just un-checking the "use Rocket" checkbox in the preferences and restart the app?

Yes absolutely. Sorry I should have been more clear. You would take those steps above if you were crashing trying to launch the application.
