OK guys I am going to post his in the hopes that we can share post production concerns, issues, and solutions that we may encounter with Red Cine. Recently there has been an update on the Red Cine software, currently REDCINE v3.0.8 (Build 108).

I have recently reinstalled it to my Windows based PC and I am still having the same issues with the software rendering garbbled frames as well as black frames. I was wondering if anyone is having this issue also what other problems you all might be experiencing.

I have a few questions for the Red Team though.

1. As far as the PC is concerned which OS are you developing it for, i.e. 98 and above, XP and above, or strictly Vista?

2. On the PCs that you test the software what is the minimum sized processor are you using?

3. How much RAM are you using and what speed?

4. Are you developing it on specific graphics cards or are there certain cards that you get better response from? Also is the a certain amount of memory the graphics card should have?

The reasons why I ask should be obvious, I am wanting to upgrade my system in order to use the software so that I can edit the Scarlet footage once it is finished.

Just to let you know the PC I am working with is a DIY build, Intel D945GCCR motherboard, 3Ghz Dual Core Processor, Wixdows XP Processor, and 2Ghz of memory.

Please to all that may reply I know that there are a multitude of posibilities and options to choose from, but in order to keep it simple what are the bare essentials that will be required in order to overcome the rendering issues that was stated earlier in the post?

hi - i had the new version and have actually gone back to an older version as i lost a heap of QT codecs. still love the software and it is running like a champion.

BTW - what graphics card are you using. this seams to be a source of a lot of the problems with redering ect...

Any Red Team members willing to chime in on this question? Please?

First, don`t update until you have a scarlet being delivered, computer system performance and price will most likely improve significantly by then, so you`re wasting money, when you might get a quad-core system for the same price later..
I have an Intel 1.66 mhz etc dual core 2 processor 2 gig ram (800mhz), NVIDIA Geforce7 Go 128mb+System etc (pretty lowly) GFX card, vista ultimate 32-bit, Toshiba Satellite(?) Laptop. I broke the screen when i got it, haven`t used it for six months (but I borrowed an external LCD) until Apple update MBPro and I buy one, but it works for now anyway, horray, images.. Some functions seem to not work, but my main problem (psychologically) is the 30-60 sec delays as I click on h/d folders to import files, each time I move down the tree, its drains me of all creative pleasure. Click folder->30-60sec delay->click folder->30-60sec delay->click..etc wtf, I just want to select a file! ..anyway, I guess I need a proper GFX card with some decent memory for it to work, but file dialogs shouldn`t be so slow, ever! Rendering speeds I can deal with..but five minutes selecting a file is painful

Speed=36sec per frame (preview low-res), export draft, 4k 2:1 footage

Overall, I enjoy what Redcine is, when I get a decent machine to run it and its fully functional. A downloadable manual would be cool, or is there one? faq? I`ll look..

Yes, it's better now. ISO works, the whole color section.

Seems stable and some new codex appeared.

Hey, does anyone use this codec:

http://www.digitalanarchy.com/Merch...en=PROD&Product_Code=MSCM&Category_Code=CT-MC

I installed the None16 and it appeared now, but wanted to know if the Microcosm also works well?

Has anyone tested it with a serious project - the whole footage transcoded into Microcosm and working fine?

Sounds great on theory - 16 bit + alpha (64 bit) RGBA - and fully lossless.

But is it stable?

@Ronx
Thanks for the advice but I am trying to get a working version on my computer so that when Scarlet is finalized I can actually use it on day one. I don't believe in waiting until I have a paying gig and I can't deliver because the computer won't cooperate. You know what I mean?

Red Team Please?!?!?!?!?

Red Team Please?!?!?!?!?

Can anyone from Red please help the PC users with REDCINE? Please look at post #1 of this thread? Please?

I use two computers for REDCINE - my laptop and a workstation class PC. Both of them render multiple shots as DPX, Quicktime, etc. with no problems, on both B15 and B16 footage. Most of the shots I deal with are either 4K 2:1 or 4K 16:9.

I make sure that the systems are as idle as possible when running REDCINE, i.e.: no other apps running, and all non-essential services turned off. I also turn off any and all XP security features, e.g.: Windows Firewall, AVG, Automatic Update. Disk Indexing is turned off, and anything that takes graphics or CPU cycles is off.

Laptop:
Single Intel Core Duo T2600 @ 2.16G
NVidia QuadroFX 2500M
2G RAM
XP SP3

Workstation:

Which version of Red Cine are you using?

Which version of Red Cine are you using?

This has been true with pretty much every version of REDCINE. I understand that a lot of people are having problems. But I deal pretty regularly with a large group (about 50 or so...) REDCINE users who consistent and good results.

Right now, I am switching between 108 and an as-yet unreleased alpha version.

Lucas,

I can't get Redcine to give me any QT options.

I'm on the lastest build (3.1.2), and I'm trying to output from B16 (3.1.8) footage.

It appears my only option is DPX files, and it will only let me export them at the full 4k.

Any suggestions?

Lucas,

Correction...

I am also able to ouput 4k .jpg's. This may work for my Matrox Axio LE system. I did a time lapse with similar resolution images from a D200.

.mov files would be better, though. I can't figure out why it won't work for me.
