If you go out from either app without doing any sort of correction then go in to something like Apple Color, do you lose out in any way or doesn't it matter where you adjust contrast and saturation etc?

I'm not talking about sharpening and noise reduction.

It depends on how you transfer the footage across. If you use an 8-bit format then it's better to do the changes in REDCINE/ALERT...

I would say yes, you do.

I just did a test with a clip with slight blown out highlights in RedCine. If I adjusted the exposer, or Iso setting then I saw detail, both on screen, and on the histogram. I then saved out the clip with no color adjustment, and everything set to neutral. I saved to Rec709, and Red log OpenEXR files. The detail in the highlights were gone when I opened them up in the compositing app Fusion.

I am curious if others have come to the same conclusion.

Interesting. I was thinking in terms of exporting 10 bit and choosing the same ISO in both instances. I was meaning more in terms of applying curves being able to do things that could later be done in a grading program.
