Hi all,
Recently, both of my RED Chargers (replaced with the '08 battery/charger upgrades) had one side suffer intermittent failures within a week of each other. The LED indicators would blink RED first, on one battery, then progressively on the others.
I compressed the battery plate's pin cover and discovered the charger pins have a small, springy strip of metal that can, over time, become compressed within the "barrel" of the pin itself, reducing contact with a battery's sockets.
Using a micro-screwdriver, I carefully pried the affected strips back outside the barrels, being careful not to expose the top edge of the strips (which could get caught with the next insertion of the battery and bent irretrievably.)
After this simple procedure, my charger works flawlessly. Looks like this is a small bit of maintenance that should be performed on a periodic basis.
