RED CF Cards or RED SSD

I have been waiting for nearly 4 months on our SSD, unfortunately it is on back order and I am not given any dates at all as to when it will be shipping. Should I cancel the order and just get 8 CF cards instead?

I was wondering how limited I am with the CF cards vs the SSD? I contacted RED today and I was told that our camera will record to cf cards just as it would an SSD including all of the same frame rates, resolution, and combinations of both. I was under the impression I would be limited to certain settings with the CF cards, that is why we chose to purchase the SSD instead.

If you can hold out for the SSD's, I would. The 8GB cards are extremely limited in what they can record, and I'm not sure if the CF cards are even compatible with the Epic or Scarlet anymore. The drives aren't.

I'm expecting my SSD order to arrive today. 128GB's are shipping, 256's are backordered.

The new SSD's are the way to go! You are blessed to have hit the sweet spot.
I have A RED Ram if you need one to hold you over.

A couple of days ago Jarred said that SSD modules would be 90% out of backorder within 48hours.
Haven't heard an update on that, though.
I've emailed my Bomb Squad rep about my December order but haven't heard back from him yet.
Joshua, maybe we're in the last 10%, and need to wait for the next batch ( though I can't see how that's possible with a December order date).

Hi Mark,

I wouldn't worry, I'm guessing that there must have some issue that delayed shipment.

I ordered a side module, a couple of 128's and a 256 on day one (Dec. 8th) within a minute of them becoming available in the store as I NEED some more media. I should be pretty near the front of the line.

No word yet. If I haven't heard something by early next week I'll follow up with my bomb squad rep.

While it's tempting to play the "are we there yet" game with my rep, who's always super helpful (Thanks Charles!), it's not going to make things ship any faster.

I'll post as soon as any of the above arrives.

Yea I can't wait to get ahold of these cards. They're better in every way possible when compared to the older options. It's cool we can upgrade our R1s to be compatible with the new media.
