Yeah that's a strange way to be teaching isn't it. Wouldn't a more proper way to do it be a workshop where you actually give the kids hands on time with the camera and make sure that they actually know what they're doing instead of just answering some stock questions?

I don't believe this is a teaching aid. When I worked at Ryerson University, I administered the mandatory test students took before using the school's SR2 cameras. It sounds like this school is doing a similar thing.
What we did was:
1. Classroom instruction on the cam.
2. Small group instruction on the cam.
3. Short written test.
4. Practical build test.
Students learn to use the cam in 1 and 2, and then are "certified" to book the cam by passing 3 and 4.
I believe the OP is asking what should be on the short written test that qualifies students to use the cam. It should include questions that test whether the students will A) break the cam (or be a pain to the next user) and B) will get more or less useable footage.
I would put some suggestions, but I'm dashing out the door.
