  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red camera value....

Approx 17.500US$

(As all REDs purchased before or on october 29th qualify for the 17.500US$ trade in offered in stage 3)

Little confused here. I know you can trade in your Red for $17.5K and get the Epic X, but that's just for the brain, correct? You still have to buy all the modules which are about $8k, correct? So the Epic X will cost $28K + $8K, $36K with no lens, WOW, that's not cheap!

Yeah the good news is the way RED has structured their trade up deal there's excellent value on used REDs. Other companies could really learn from this- it's a very generous way to deliver on the 'making obsolescence obsolete' motto of the company.

It's also good business sense because it makes it so there's no point for a would-be used buyer to wait and see what's next. If you want a RED ONE- now's as good a time as ever to get one. The camera will continue to hold its value as EPIC emerges.

Do you know of any system that will produce RED ONE style images for less money. That's why the RED ONE is considered a good buy.

Actually all REDs even today's can qualify for a $17,500 credit towards a brain.

I'm confused. I thought only Red Ones purchased and paid for on or before October 29 qualify for any of the stages. Has there been an official change?

My understanding is:
Before Oct 29th - trade in towards Epic X camera system (some modules included depending on stage)

After Oct 29th - trade in towards Epic Brain (no modules included)

I believe that only "all red ones purchased and paid for on or before october 29, 2009 qualify for the stages options" as in a trade in. I could be wrong but it reads fairly clearly.

The $17500 to buy a REDONE is for the "body only" w/PL mount.
When you trade in for an Epic-X, you get the Epic X brain (equivalent of the RED body) PLUS some accessories - depending on the stage.
Check your math.
If I pick stage 3, I am paying $10500 and getting the Epic brain/IO module/PL mount/2.8"LCD/REDMOTE/CF module/Pro battery module/2 redvolt batteries.
Not a bad deal if you ask me!

With the release of the Epic, what are used Reds selling for nowadays?

I would say it it worth approx. $15,000.

Take $17,500 and subtract the cost of the evaluation / transfer fee ($750-$1250?). Then subtract whatever amount is worth the difference between a 1-year warranty and a 90-day warranty.

I think price will also depend on serial number. The sooner you get the EPIC - the sooner you are in a better position to have it making money for you. Lower serial #'s = higher purchase price.

True. Forgot about that factor.

But people also have to be careful about that factor. It isn't actually the serial #, it is the date of delivery that determines the place in line for Epic.

Anyone who buys a new RED ONE or a used RED ONE and transfers ownership after yesterday... (Oct. 29) will be able to trade it in for $17,500 credit on an EPIC-S35 Brain ONLY.

The purpose of STAGEs ONE-THREE was to reward people who believed in the program and fought through the process with us. Buying today does not qualify for the same level of reward.

This too seems clear. Stages 1-3 trade in packages require prior to Oct. 29 purchase.

After Oct. 29 purchase until some future announced cutoff date gets you trade in at stage 4. Brain only, no free modules.

I may point you to this one, just as my own approach of finding out about values of the different offered deals:

http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=37203

I came to the conclusion that a RED BODY is worth actually 8.500 US$ after the EPIC market hit. Trading it against a brain only may raise its value, but is that likely to happen? Make your own thoughts on this.

Cheers,
Axel
