Here's a camera log for anyone who wants it.
If you modify it, please send me a copy.

The .jpg is a sloppy example of how to fill it out for those who have never done "paper work".

Thanks Shawn,

I was just working on one of these and I log on and see it's already done! It's perfect!
Thanks again

You're all welcome.

After posting it, I realized that doing "paper work" has changed. (On a film shoot, there's a ton of it done by the 2nd and the loader.)

I've given this "log" a lot of thought in the last couple of days and am making adjustments accordingly. I will post the new one soon.

This one replaced both the camera log book and the film inventory sheet. I'm thinking of creating replacements for both, but leaving it to a 2 sheet system. However, the RED tech/DIT/DAM would still use one that's pretty similar to this one.

If anyone has suggestions to make this better, please share.

Just some feedback

Just some feedback

Thanks for sharing, great resource.

Just a few thoughts:

  • I would put the title of the show on top of everything
  • Have a little field for "Camera Number" for those multi camera shoots
  • On the bottom there should be little field for a signature of who filled out the form
  • It can also be helpful to have a column with the length of the take
  • "Lens height" I just don't understand - is that the height of the tripod?
  • I would put ISO in a column, as it could easily change from scene to scene or even take to take
  • The notes column I would make a bit wider
  • Varispeed I would not see necessary - that would be marked under "Notes"

OK, but now I am really off for my holidays. :weight_lift:

Okay, I can move the ISO so that each shot can have its own ISO. But should it change for a shot or two, "NOTES" is a great area for noting this.

There already exists a space for camera number.

I can alter the lens height column to be thinner, but notes is about right. Have you ever filled out a camera log book? I like varispeed being in its own area. Notes is really just for filters and such.

I WILL ADD a "SHUTTER" field though.

Will add the person's identity field, sure.

Length of take? I've always hated counting footage and the RED displays available media space. I won't add this one, but by all means go for it.

Thanks for the thoughts, I'll get to it soon.

Here's an updated log form. I did not include a template on how to fill it out this time. Again, feel free to make changes, just send me a copy.

Or just post suggestions for improvement.

Didn't change the ISO field as suggested. My skills with Excel are very limited.

You're welcome. Everyone's welcome. I hope all find it useful and maybe some out there can help it evolve as the the camera and workflows evolve.
