Hi RED Lens team...
I beg of you to build one of these compact ZOOMs. (PL please)

I've had my time with Canon glass and hate hate hate hate hate the manual focus abilities and different front element sizes of the each lens... I'm over them.
I'm back to loving PL glass again, My small bright ZIESS MKIII's are getting me out of trouble, but would love it if you guys with your superior optical quality could make a small, light, bright set of super speed primes... to cater for your 6k future.

But for now... A lens like this Ziess 70-200 from RED.. (but no bigger) would be a perfect complement to your 17-50.

I'm on hands and knees...
Thankyou in advance.

Uh, why not just buy the Zeiss? Price? $20K ain't bad. I have heard it breathes a bit, but haven't seen it myself.

I used it at NAB... was nice...

But 22k is a lot for a compact ZOOM.
3k for Canon... easy stuff.
same for Nikon.
And I want to stick with RED ZOOMs, They are so sharp and affordable.

Cant be that hard to put rings and a PL mount on... why charge 5x as much? for what?

If someone could make a PL friendly lightweight NIKON ZOOM... I'm in.
I was sure ducalous was making one? did they try?

breathing never phases me, I just take it out in post if it annoys me, but after many years of shooting, I've only done that once.

screw it, I'm calling them now...

Mark,

Tom Lowe had one for sale a while back, I'm sure there's one in the sale section or you could hit up Duclos and see if they have any sets ready that you could give a try

Isn't this project still in development at Duclos?

They've been slammed with conversion work, moving, a break-in and theft of a bunch of 11-16mm Tokinas, etc.... Then Arri came out with a 70-200 CP. I think that caused them to hesitate, but I told them if they could come out with the Nikon conversion at a price point of around $10-11K, they'd still sell like hotcakes. Big diff between 10 and 22K! And knowing that their Nikon 70-200 conversion would be as good as their Tokina, then I'm in.

If you guys are interested, chime it! I'm sure Matt and Paul would like to know they still have a viable market out there!

+ 2 for the Duclos 70-200

10 - 11K?
Why so much?

Yes, there's a market for it for sure. But not at 10-11K IMHO.
It's just putting a PL mount and focus rings on the lens. Is there anything else going in the conversion? (maybe I'm not aware of it).

+1. I talked to Matt last week and you're right Mark. They stopped development for a while when the Zeiss lens was announced, but they are now back on track based on the lower price point. They are slammed with work, but proceeding on the 70-200. It will have long focus throw in the cine direction, and internal gearing will be reworked. Should be fantastic.

Wanted...
Who's got one of these they want to sell. ?

Hey Mark,

...not for sale...but have one of these in Nikon mount version that has been cinemoded by Matt Duclos.
The image is beautiful.
The only drawback is that when you change focus direction, there is a image shift.
No problem for me if i plan my shot, or if action is very fast.

Love this lense.

To be fair it's not just a Nikon lens with a PL mount and some focus rings glued on, like the 80-200 Mark posted.

Focus direction will be reversed, focus travel increased, distance marks added, plastic barrel probably replaced with anodized aluminum, etc. Their 11-16 is basically a new lens that re-uses the elements and optical formula from a Tokina 11-16.

I understand why all that work commands a steep price.

That said, it's not for me. I see it as a luxury item. I can't pay 5x as much so I don't have to remember to spin my FF wheel backwards.
