Red build one can be upgraded to 16?

Sorry to ask an ignorant question, but are the first builds of RED upgradable to the latest 16th? Or will there be hardware changes that makes it impossible just to firmware upgrade?

I am really asking because I want a couple of Scarletts next year and I am wondering if one should preorder (when we can) or wait till the dust settles..

Build 16 is only a firmware upgrade, no hardware changes involved.
Just download it, copy it to a CF card and install on the camera... for free.

I think Jim said there won't be preorders for Scarlet...

There most likely will not be any pre-orders for Scarlett....

So wait? No pre-orders for scarlet? Meaning no deposits/reservations....? First come first serve sort of thing?

I was hoping since I bought a red one and feel like I'm in the cool kids club that we'd all get an early opportunity for a scarlet? I'm betting there's gonna be a mad rush on those things.... I know I want at least two.

well... as I recall with the Canon 10D and/or 20D DSLR still cameras, there were supply shortages for the first 3-4 months the camera was out. But in that case there was a worldwide user base of the previous model (D30 & D60) many of whom wanted to upgrade immediately.
