  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Bricks vs Anton Bauer

Having spent most of my career working in North America, I tend to use AB Gold Mount. I use Gold Mount for my XCS Ultimate 2 and as well I've got a Gold Mount on my Epic. That being said, I am now based in Asia and I've shot in quite a few countries in the region and it seems here everything is predominantly V-Mount. Gold Mount may be universal but it's hard to find in Asia/ South East Asia. You can purchase batteries in either configuration but V-Mount is popular here. However, I still prefer the stability that Gold Mount offers. I've never had an issue with a battery slipping out of its mount like I've experienced with a V-Mount on a rental camera. I use the Wooden Camera Gold Mount with my Epic which has 2 D-tap ports. Great to power accessories like a Paralinx Arrow.

Here is what I like about the AB / Dionic setup, vs other options

•*AC power supply which is attached to battery plate. If INT on a head, I'm always on AC with a battery attached. No power supply dragging on the floor or stressing the lemo connector. When camera moves, we can pull all the cables, and the camera cuts over to batt power.

•*AC power and Dionic HC are roughly the same dimensions as the brain. All the generic AB or V-lock batts are much taller than the brain.

•*AB Power supply power cord does prevent removing an SSD card, with this setup I just remove the power supply with my right hand, insert SSD with left hand. No need to power down camera.

•*2 D-Tap connectors. One for a TVLogic 5.6 and a second for a zoom servo.

•*Like others, over the years I too have had vlock batts fall off cameras, I've never had an issue with the AB style plate.

Look into Switronix 98WH batteries, very good pricing and AB mount. Just get the Non-digital LA series chargers.

Evin, I really like those Switronix batteries too. Just wondering, what were those Non-Digital LA series chargers you were talking about? Couldn't find them online

Thanks all! I do travel occasionally for work and this would be a big consideration. Sounds like it depends on the region you're in, since most of my work is in North America it looks like AB is the way to go for now.

Thanks all for your input, highly appreciated!
