  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Brick Service

How about local drop-offs? It looks like I can spend less time and money by coming to your door, only 20 miles away. Love that you're doing this...the battery bump is easily my most frequent (and pretty much my only) qualm with the camera system. Thanks, guys!

Local Drop-offs can be arranged. You'd have to email me for an appointment time. We do not accept walk-ins, so by appointment only. The paperwork can be done ahead of time to expedite the process.

Also, for those in NYC, we also have a messenger service for a nominal fee, and get the batteries back to you the following day.

All these things can be done, but must be scheduled to ensure a smooth process.

Well, I have this problem in my batteries but I´m in Santiago, Chile, so I´m very interested about getting the part to fix it here. I work with a large 35mm rental house, they have a good service lab, so the job can be well done. I would need the new plate too.
Please let me know if you`re shipping overseas.
Thanks!

International inquiries can email me for information about acquiring the parts. We will not offer the parts domestically. Also, the cost of the part is similar in cost of the service, as we're offering this for as inexpensive as possible.

We're also going one further;

If you have our GP-SRED v mount plate, we will GUARANTEE the block and the connection for REDusers for the life of the battery.

We don't see this being too outlandish of a guarantee since we've been doing this for 10+ years now and never had issues between our own connection parts.

The GP-SRED plate is available exclusively at Abel Cine Tech for $189.

If you end up having an issue and have all our components(Plate and serviced battery) we'll replace the part and service on our tab(excluding freight)!!

Good deal.

I just got my brick back from Switronix. Well worth the $50! Like having a brand new battery.

Thanks!

FYI,

We're getting in a good amount of batteries daily. For the most part, these batteries all look the same. One of the requirements is that we need the serials from the batteries, so that we insure you get YOUR battery back.

If your serial has rubbed off or is illegible on the battery, please just place gaffers/masking tape on the battery and give it your own serial number.

This will speed things up when people call/email us for a packing list to send in the batteries.

Thanks

Is it possible to get by with just replacing the old tabs with the new Switronix tabs on the batteries or do I really need to buy the Switronix V-type battery mount plate for the charger as well?

Valid concern but it's sort of apples and oranges. You see a camera like the RED, although intelligent, it's programmed just to draw power whether available or not. So by wanting to draw, it will continually try whether the connection has integrity or not.

A charger(such as RED's and ours) are intelligent as well, however, they constantly monitor the batteries condition(while the R1 camera doesn't, the % data doesn't apply in this case), and if their isn't a good connection, the charger will sense either no battery, or their is a problem with the battery, and will not charge, reducing the change of resistance/heat to build up on the connection.

I presume it is possible to have an issue with the charger connection, but it much more likely and prevalent on the battery mounts.

Wow. That battery was still operable? Because one of ours looks similar (not as bad as that). I have two in total that won't charge so I'm interested in the parts kit since I live in Japan.

For the parts kit is it still a four battery minimum?

Cheers,

Paul

Yes the battery was still operable, but the connections weren't accessible because of the melted contact pushed all the way into the battery housing. We replaced the contacts and connection, the battery is now able to charge and discharge. Please PM me for international service inquiries.

Yep! Have one like that too, bit melted, am in France... Would love to have it fixed... Thanks to let me know how and pricing please...

Also getting my hotswap plate from Abel in a few days... :)

Thanks

May I ask, if I wanna change the battery(Red Brick) without shut down Red cam, izzit got any extra accessories for my issue?
I'm using Red One.

Hi Vincent,

I have 5 Red batteries with various issues. One of them lights up 4 out of 5 bars but won't power the camera and gives a red light on the charger. The terminal block looks questionable but not as bad as what you've shown. I've got the thing open, am very handy with a soldering iron too. I've put my voltage meter on the red and black power wires inside the case, but am only getting a few millivolts reading. Voltage meter on the Test and VDD terminals on the pc board gives about 14.5 volts. Any thoughts? Could it be the terminal block? If so, since I'm in Canada, can I still purchase replacement terminals from you, and how much if I can?

Thanks,
Ron

Just answered my own question I think, it's the terminal block. I took an xacto knife to the plus and minus terminals to clean them up a bit and now the battery works on the charger and fires up the camera. But it's only reading "DC" on the camera. Could this also be the terminal block? I have a few that are like that, only read DC.

Thanks,
Ron
