We’re out shooting in a remote location in the Japanese mountains. Temperatures have been between negative 10 and 15C, have had our Red One and battery’s well protected from snow and wet. Been out here for a few weeks now without a single problem.. But today one Red Brick started to mess with us. The battery was fully charged, but the camera shut down after just a few minutes. Power indicator on the Brick shows that it’s supposed to be fully charged. Tried with another battery back and it worked fine.

Battery’s are about three years old and have been working fine until today.
Any thoughts on this? Is the battery pack dead?

Thanks
Viktor

Check the contacts are not damaged.

Are you keeping the batteries warm before use?

All batteries have a limit to how many cycles they can be recharged. At some point they won't hold a charge. Several companies offer recelling of professional batteries which can be cheaper than buying a new one. But be sure to check they can do it with Red batteries - be aware that you will probably void any Red camera warranty using an improperly recelled battery which causes damage.

was the brick dropped? There is a thin black wire that wraps around the battery (internally) that can break loose if the brick is dropped. It is an easy repair if you know what you are doing, if not you will likely start a fire and burn the house down.

Bad internet connection up here in the woods...

I found a solution. Started to have the same problem with the other battery pack and I checked out the pins on the battery plate. They were squeezed together, too slim to get good connection. I opened up the pins a bit and both of them are now working well.
