I recently purchased a set of used RED BRICK batteries off another REDUSER...upon testing said batteries, two lose power if receiving the slightest of bumps, and one refuses to power on at all.

As I also am in possession of working RED BRICKS, I know the issue is NOT with the battery plate.

I've heard about contact issues, and the places you can potentially send them to be fixed, but first, any advice on how to personally repair and/or clean them?

Thanks in advance.

Sometimes there is corrosion on the terminals. Take a small xacto knife and scrape the inside of the 4 terminals until they are nice and shiny. This solved similar issues on some of mine. The other problem could be that the terminals are so badly burnt out that they will need to be replaced. The batteries sometimes arc (you'll see that the plastic surround is melted) or the terminals get hot due to the high current and there is not enough material to make reliable contact. Only option then is to replace the terminals. One of the battery manufacturers was offering to fix each battery with a new terminal for $50, with minimum 4. I can't remember who it was, maybe IDX, do a search on this forum. Unlikely but it could be a bad solder joint inside. The batteries are a bit tricky to open though.

If you want to send them in, I"ll take a look at them at no cost. If I can fix them, I'll let you know. Could just be corroded terminals. Email me at jason@CinemaOxide.com

Hi Jason, yup, that's what I was suggesting, corroded terminals, and clean them up with a blade. Any suggestions from your end on how someone can do it at home? I'm in Canada so expensive to ship down south for servicing. I'd like to replace the terminals completely, have 3 batteries that I cant get working despite them having power (tested internally on the board between VCC and Ground terminals). Do you have a source for inexpensive terminals?

I can't get into too much detail on this public forum but I wouldn't take an exacto knife to the gold-coated terminals. Since stainless steel is much harder than gold, you might create a bigger problem by digging into the gold, creating more opportunities for corrosion in the near future. If you seek more advice, just email me at jason@CinemaOxide.com
