Hi all,

I'm currently the cinematographer on a Japanese short film called "Red Box" and wanted to share a few sample stills from the shoot. All are downsized from 5K WS to 1920x810 for ease of viewing and download.

Without giving the plot away, the story calls for various mood looks so what you see here are my first stabs at an overall palette depending on each shot's mood.

I also wanted to make the footage look as filmic as possible, so I've used RedCine's post-processing film grain plugin to add grain to suit.

Everything is shot with Canon EF mount lenses at 5K WS. Redcode 8:1 for most shots at 23.98fps.

I hope you'll agree that Epic can produce some stunning images that are as close to film as makes no difference!

Comments and criticisms welcome, as always!

Shooting more this weekend.

Enjoy!

Cheers from Tokyo,

Paul :)

Hey Paul,
Love the look! Are those car headlights in the first two screen grabs? I love the look of the light in those top two shots.

Thanks all for your feedback. Matt, the lights (besides the actual lighthouse) are indeed our crew car headlights :D

Will post some more shortly....

Here is another lot of shots from the weekend's shoot. HDRx where needed (such as the sunset shots). Again, I added grain to these to give a more organic feeling. All shots are resized from 5K WS down to 1920x810 (and can be right clicked and saved as such). Colors are for test purposes and aren't fully matched yet across shots.

We have now wrapped principal production and the editing team is now working with the R3D files online using Adobe Premiere 5.5.2.

Enjoy and I look forward to posting a trailer once the editing is completed.

Cheers from Tokyo,

Paul :)

While those night shots were eye-catching, those first seaside shots certainly set the mood. Very nice.

Thanks all for your kind comments - it's really appreciated! :)

We're now entering the edit phase. Hopefully we will have a trailer to release soon, so you can see some of these shots in motion....

Cheers from Tokyo,

Paul :)
