Red Bashing On Forbes Website

+1 to Eric for stating the very needed on this forum.

Now..
”At first glance, Scarlet might sound like the better deal. But RED cameras typically require a bunch of expensive extras. That’s part of the company’s strategy; lure filmmakers with a low base price and hit their pockets later with a plethora of expensive add-ons.”
They got that part correct. Of course, all other camera options on the same level is also built on the same rail system, and if you compromise in looks, you can find less expensive gear that will do the job.

Couldn't agree more, everything you say is correct, it's going to be success, just a different market than the scarlet. I can run and gun a full day with the c300 following someone, with 2 battery's in my pocket, edit overnight, and deliver next day. Something that is not (yet) possible with scarlet of epic, just different use...
Where canon made a real fault was, the two separate versions for PL and EF. Nobody is going to by 2 camera. If they made the camera with both the option for PL an EF, they would sell heck of lot more...

if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Not everyone is making a feature film, but people forget that.

In the latest RC (#100) podcast he mentions pro's and con's of the Canon. It seems its biggest strength is low light capaiblity, which he says is the current king of the hill besting the F3, EPIC, and Alexa. Has has months of experience using both the EPIC and Canon C 300, so I believe him.

Just because you can crank the sensitivity up to 20,000 doesn't mean its going to be cleaner.

Just my 2 cents after attending the Canon Event, and actually playing with the cameras. Personally I don't want to blow out a whole scene with a 25w practical, but then again, I'm not shooting reality TV in a dark alley either.

The article is perfect example of journalism devolving into biased op-ed these days. Something as esoteric as the market for high quality cinema cameras has to be approached accordingly, with educated insight. None on display here.

Uninformed and misleading to the Forbes reader who may no very little about cameras. Forbes fail.

What does the journalist have to say about the price of the new Canon cine-glass?

Lee gets the award for post of the year. That one really had me laughing!
