  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED ATA Cases

Hey Greg,

I see you have custom cut foam for an Arri LDS 12 mm. Would you happen to have templates for LDS lenses (16-135mm), or know where I could get them?

Do you feel strongly that ATA cases are better than Storm?

Thx,
M

Yes it is custom, but my post wasn't clear. We have two separate cases, one for the MB20 and one for the FF-4. Together these cases are still hundreds less than what you were quoted. Also, we do have a generic accessory case with dividers that will work quite well and you can set up however you like. This would hold an MB20, FF-4 a dozen or so filters in pouches and probably have room for a little something else as well.

Mitch/Steve,

I'd be interested in this. Can you shoot me some info?

thx,

Hey all -

I'm (FINALLY) about to take delivery on my Red One, and am looking at casing options. A _quick_ look at the layout, as compared to Red's cases, seem to be pretty similar. Anybody (including Mark, digitalfx, Mitch, etc.) have a thought or consensus on why one casing option (Red's vs. A&J made to these specs) is preferable? Is it strictly price, or does this new layout offer some functional benefits?

I can't speak for the others, but A&J will custom your case(s) any way you want. Color, type of latches, rolling, etc. You can give them the specs/dimensions of the items you want in each case. They will CAD it for you and send for notes/approval. Quick turn around, durable product and great prices.

I designed the case because I wanted all the accessories and body in one case, yet I wanted the body built to a stage that did not require any tools to finish it out.

The other point over the red case was the parts required removal of the wing nuts to fit and the fit was too tight. With my case the parts retained the wingnuts and made a better fit.

Otherwise they are very similar.

Also- I kept batteries and lenses out of my case, as I feel these should be in their own cases. Especially the batteries which allows the AC to just bring the battery/charger case to his room every night to recharge....and not have to bring the entire camera package.

sorry, I typed this quickly between takes.

Let me preface this by stating that the case designs and finished cases shown here look great--nice work by all involved.

Having said that, I would maintain what Mike P. mentioned earlier in the thread (page 4) about double layer systems never quite working out.

It might be nice for transporting your Red (weight issues aside) and many of its parts, but for actually working out of it is not practical.

Not only does the A.C. or whomever is accessing the case contents have to find a place to put the top layer, but you better hope it's a clean place because soft foam picks up dirt, dust, hair, etc. like a magnet to a paperclip and when that top layer goes back in the case right on top of the Red body, there might be some unwelcome surprises the next time the case is opened.

Aside from the above, when it comes to what kind of case design to go with, like others have noted it really depends on the kind of work you and/or the camera will be doing. It might take a couple different style cases for different situations.

Between the A&J style or the Pelican/Storm, I would do A&J style-single layer, total weight under 66lbs. as your main case AND get a Pelican/Storm that is for airline carry-on and sized accordingly. If you plan on doing a lot of flying with your camera as a carry-on, you may want to consider the size requirements for small puddle-jumpers as well.

A&J did my prime case, they should have my template.. I prefer the ATA cases for equipment, especially lenses.

The hinge is a great addition and takes care of much of the dual layer
impracticality.

Does the Red design incorporate a hinge? If not, it should.

Cases for RED

Cases for RED

We are planning on making Xcases for the RED ONE if people are interested.
Please visit our website at www.camcase.com and check out the case.
It's carry-on size for the airlines, wheeled, and offers excellent protection for cameras and other gear. Let us know what you'd like to see. The cost will
be about the same as our current cases under $300.

I am deeply interested in the Xcase and would like to carry:

- RED body with IOP4R-1 attached and EVF held by Element Technica Mount ready to use
- One Battery with cable
- One Raid Hard drive for RED with cable
- One medium size Lens

Is there enough room in the X case to protect all this ?

Dfx, i cant get any of ur pdf's to work. They all say "drawing error". do u know how to remedy this?

AH, thanks!

awesome case, btw! considering ur case is $200 cheaper than the RED pelican, why would someone get the RED case? that hinged top layer is sweet! :)

I am having some custom ATA cases built for our RED ONE and Red Lenses...so our 3D genius created these templates for me to get the foam laser cut by Encore Cases.

I have attached the drawings in case anyone needs to order cases as well. Hope you can use these.

I will add the RED ONE body and accessories sheets very soon.
