  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red at www.cinematography.com, why so much bashing?

Whether posting here, there or anywhere, Mr. Mullen you are always right on and so willing to share the valuable knowledge that you possess.
Thank you for posting.

...maybe we need a separate section where people can air their biases, anger, worries about whatever off-topic, other boards, film vs digital, other cameras or OS biases they have. Controversial stuff only. Bit of humour in the thread too. Blow off some steam/ vent frustrations. Call it 'Fight Club'. Bit of the wild west. Dubious posts/threads/flames get transferred there. But people can say what they think. Keeps the rest of the forum pristine. might be an interesting read as well.

Hi Jan,

Comming from you that's a compliment.

Best,

Stephen
Hi Stephen, as so often you are wrong.

Kim here, I suppose we never have been intoduced - i saw you first one year after the intorduction of the red in 2007 at IBC when you were flabbegasted by the aulaity of the red 4k shots.

however Jan von Krogh (i suppose you dont talk about Jan Neidig, who also had his fun at c.com) is pressing me away from the keys....

Hi Stephen,

this now is jan.

i agree thats people who are proud of being faithful should consider logic and critic as compliment.
if they wouldnt they could suffer.
And -worst case- would adjust to reality which often isnt necessary.

owning and using 35mm film, digital and hdcam since quite a time i however recommend to relax. opce you understand and master all the techniques and disciplines, you bitterness will go away.

btw. would you say the the thomson viper is a better camera than the red one?

p.s.
boy, this will be fun once annina, markus, thomas, me, jan #2, phillip, konrad, björn, heidi, till and thr others will be all posting not only condensed under my accounts.

Accounts here are still free right?

At the end of the day its a public forum (on a private server but in a public space). If people want to show their true colors so be it. The price of freedom is worth it. In any case they aren't doing themselves any justice. Say for a hypothetical example we are in the midst of a digital revolution and these guys are bagging then who is going to work with them in two years when it becomes mainstream? It always the same wether at the work place or whatever, the people causing problems generally get some step up but in the long term are thrusted out..

Wow...now I'm confused...how many Laguuns are there?? Do they all post under the name Laguun?? Or is it mostly Jan #1?? This is another reason a real name policy is essential.

anyone else under 25 that likes film more than digital?

Yes.
I even work with computers all day on CGI.
The only digital camera I own is my cell phone. (Although that'll change when the Scarlet FF35 ships).

I disagree with anyone who says "Digital will never look as good as film".
But I also disagree with those who say "Digital is just as good as film."

It's a question of quality. Digital is... *ALMOST* as good as film. But that doesn't mean it won't be just as good very soon.

I think the reason most people under 25 don't like film is because they can't afford it. I chalk up a lot of F23 hate to the same rationality.

Ahhh...thanks, Stephen! That explains it! Good to see you doing a bit of PR for them posting their details

Seriously though, just a simple real name signature at the end would make it clearer.....just saying' :whistling:

in total a dozen emploees, and i suppose, stephen williams, you have seen & met some of the folks here at ibc 2007 and 2008.

however i suppose you were missing at IBC 2006, when red showcased their first images - man, those where the times.

however, stephen got the faxbumber wrong.
that would be 030 40 50 0818, and there are 3 other gmbhs (~ltds) associated in the holding.

Hi,

I was at IBC 2006, Contact details were a cut & paste from your website.

Best,

Stephen

the sooner everyone accepts that they're all just tools the better IMO.

OK I know that description does fit a certain percentage of posters both here and on c.com, but it's still a bit of a sweeping generalization:bleh:
Can't we all just get along.

Hardly a surprize. Despite all the success, the www.redrental.de site doesn't appear to have been updated in 2 years!
The attached image is a screen grab from their site, note the FAXnummer.

BTW I thought RED specifically prohibited people from using "RED" as part of their company name.
