Our biggest Red project to date, on Monday we took Red 214 up to Myra Canyon to shoot the first tests for an upcoming 6 part series on the Kettle Valley Railroad (KVR) and the 18 Railroad tressels which form miles of the most treacherous and difficult terrain in North America to every have a railway punched through. All but two of the tressels burned to the ground during the recent Okanagan Mountain Park Fire. Three levels of government put up the tens of millions of dollars to have them rebuilt.

This was my first chance to use the EVF with Red and its already made a huge difference. Camera positions are going to be tricky as most of the trail is only a few metres wide and the drops are sheet vertical for the most part from a few hundred to a few thousand feet. I'll be passing info and footage along as this project unfolds.

That's a Sachtler DV2. I can't believe they have the RED on that with the sheer drops below. Ouch!!! I wouldn't evenput my HVX on that.

Just a word of warning to those using small heads. Max weight ratings are there for a reason and you will very shortly blow up a head if you over rate it. Even pushing the limits of a head by 5 or so pounds will seriously lower the life of a head. If you want your gear to last get a head that's max weight rating is well above your typical camera set up.

Craig your pics are great. I have mountain biked Kelowna and Vernon a fair bit and it is beautiful there. It was a shame what the fires did to the kettle valley trail.

cheers

Its a DV6 actually. Has a rating of 19.8 Lbs. Yes its pushing it particularly when the 300 is on but in the back country weight is everything but the other way. It was a decision we made for this test and if I'm going to push a head over a cliff, (pardon the pun), its going to be a Sachtler.

Re: NDs. We used screw on NDs with the 18-50 for this test. The 300 was fine on its own at f8 as it was looking down into the canyon.
