ok somewhere in the forum, red talked about an Anamorphic Lenses, i remember even a lil fight about the flare fillter

so i know you working on crazy future stuff, an there's probably more competitor, then actual reduser on the web site, but can you tell me if you guys are working on on it ?

just say yes or no, i don't need the spec,

I'd love to see more anamorphics available! I have no connections at Red, but if I could surmise my opinion... There is nothing easy about making professional top-quality anamorphics. Also, I'd assume because of Red's 2:1 chip and popular 16x9 settings, they would want to create a 1.3x lens series, as they really have little need for 2x squeeze. 2X squeeze has more of the optical side-effects associated with anamorphic lenses, but if the main purpose is to get your desired aspect ratio without sacrificing resolution by letterboxing or pillar boxing... the 1.3 lenses make more sense: (16:9 x 1.3 = 20.8:9 = 2.31 (close to 2.4) ... while 2:1 x 1.3 = 2.6:1 thus close to 2.4 but needing pillar boxing versus letter boxing.)

If Red went with 2x anamorphics, people would be slicing more resolution by pillar boxing, as 16:9 x 2 = 32:9 = 3.56:1 versus the target 2.40:1. And 2:1 would be 4:1!!!) So I would think it would be in their best interest to do 1.3 squeeze lenses. However, I'm not an expert, but I would find it unlikely that anamorphic lenses by Red are coming soon, mainly because their cameras still don't support 1.3x anamorphic viewing (Ana mode is for 2x lenses). I assume had Red been very serious about anamorphic lenses in the future, we'd have seen some firmware support for 1.3x anamorphic viewing in Epic. Am I wrong?

That's just my .02... based on nothing but an educated guess. I'd like to see some Anamorphics from Red, considering the alternatives are pricey Hawks and 2x squeeze Clairmont series, or those cool but crappy mechanic Lomo's. The best bet these days is to just get a Panavised Red and use their anamorphic, which are still 2x squeeze however. Thank god for Red having lots of resolution, because all that pillar boxing is gonna need it.
