I've looked through the forums concerning the issue where footage color corrected with Red Alert, whereupon output to ProRes, looks completely different than the original grading. Why does this happen? And is there a way that I can fix this? And also, I tried checking Enable Final Cut Studio color compatability in QT Prefs---this just reduced the contrast and made everything look brighter.

Red Alert v 3.60
Quicktime v 7.6

Are these Build20 clips? New color science is not yet enabled in QT Player, which makes for very different looking clips.

The quicktime codec is still using the old color science and also has fixed colorspace/gammaspace. It's a high priority to get a new QT REDcode component out that fixes all these issues. It means rewriting a huge chunk of the component to get it up to the latest plus all the additional complexity.

Yeah...must be a headake.

In the meanwhile, what i do is generate low quality proxies in Clipfinder, to avoid "visual frustration" :) of camera proxies, edit, and finally conform and render full quality both in in Clipfinder.

I do not see that gamma shift here if i select FCP compatibility in QT prefs.

When my monitors are set at 1.8 gamma, what i see in Clipfinder, RedAlert, and what is output to Quicktime look exactly the same gamma and colors.

Are you Prorezzing with FCP log and transfer? It doesn't recognize some changes you make in REDAlert, or at least it didn't the last time I used it which was 8 months ago. Use RedRushes instead.
