Any ideas as to why Red Alert crashes on import of an R3D file? I can open and use Red Cine fine but not Red Alert. I have trashed all old files and downloaded latest version on support site.
imac
2.8 Ghz Intel Core 2 duo
2 GB 677 DDR2 SDRAM

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

I can't get to redrelay to check.

It could be that the download was corrupted?

Those are 4K 16:9 which aren't currently supported by RedAlert or the Quicktime component.

4k 2:1 , 3k, and 2k will work in RedAlert but not 4K 16:9.

Theres no way to know until it open in an app. All formats should be supported on all our apps in the next few weeks.

16:9 has been available in-camera for some months now, but not through the rest of the workflow (except Redcine and I assume Scratch). People posting here are continually getting tripped up by this, and in fact Jim himself was, when I first posted my 16:9 test clips. I didn't realize this either when I did the test. I chose 16:9 just because I wanted to use more total pixels. 2:1 uses less pixels vertically.

I am a bit surprised that the tools have not been updated. Apparently it is not a simple case of changing one line like

#define MAX_YSIZE 2304 /* allow for 4k 16:9 format */

in some header file, as I would have thought. Or maybe it is but they want to roll other updates in before another release.

For the tools like redalert and redline it's complete rewrite of the core decompression code.

I see, that is definitely not what I had assumed. On another subject, if you're still taking suggestions on useful bits of functionality...

I run WinXP here. Now in any file window, when I hover my mouse over a MP3 file, a small yellow "tooltip" type window pops up with some details like the runtime of the file (h:mm:ss), the bitrate, etc. I may be wrong but I think my computer did not originally do this. I don't know if it was some official MS upgrade or a 3rd party download. If there's any way for similar info to pop up with a R3D file, that would be quite handy. I've never looked into how this is done; maybe it's only possible through a patch to the OS.

Edit: obviously... I wouldn't consider this a high priority, considering what other work is in process.
