Footage of a friends airplane we shot while we were waiting for the right light for some ground video of San Francisco on a windy evening. 4.5k with zeiss super speeds.

yeah, very nice, but shouldn't Tim look in front of him instead of at the camera the whole time? :-)

Beautiful stuff thanks for posting that wondering whether you were recording to card or HDD?

Last time I was shooting out of a plain we had a HDD loaded. But I thought that there might be to harsh vibrations so took a pack of cards with me; low and behold we got to many dropped frames and had to switch to card.

Beautiful stuff Nigel,
Can you give us some idea of your filming setup please?

clearance

clearance

Thought so too, then it dawned on me: he was constantly checking for clearance because he was unwilling to die in a plane-crash.

Yep - if he hadn't been looking at the camera (or my airplane) all the time I wouldn't have been there!!

Thanks for all the comments! Here is some more info...

We were shooting from a Cessna so we had less vibration issues that using a helicopter. We have been developing a set up over the last year to remove vibration. We are just about there. I couldn't see much vibration in the footage we got from the RED. It is not gyrostabilized so turbulence is a problem (it was pretty bumpy on that day). We are looking at a gyrostabilizer solution. We used a HDD and isolated from any vibration and we did not get any dropped frames, but I think we could have mounted it to camera as there was no vibration at the camera. We shot through an open window but we are getting FAA approval to remove the door on future shoots.

Nice formation flying in rowdy air. With a 50 mm he must have been pretty close. I also didn't see any read/reset, jello, or strobe problems on the prop. His beautiful RV must've been a good matchup to your 180. Well done!

Thanks! He was probably 15 feet away at the closest point. I took my head set off and could hear his engine!
We were shooting at 24fps - may be that helped with the prop. Not sure. He is normally a good 40 to 50 kts faster than the 180 so he was back on the power.

Those RV's have a great speed range but yours is the superior camera platform. Good luck with the OK on your door removal. Should be pretty standard.
