Here are a few frame grabs from the fist aerial flight of RED in the UK set up by Jeremy Braben of Helicopter Film Services using their 36 inch Wescam and nose mount, flying in a AS355 piloted by Ian Evans

Weather was dappled sunlight with haze. On the outbound flight we were shooting air to air with two other choppers into the sun with a very hot sky. RED's 12bit recording enabled far greater scope to tweak for best results in post than I could have in the air using a HDC f950 or HDC1500 and SRW1. 0.9 ND, T 8 to T11 on Angineaux 25-250 HR

We went off road with 36mbs 2:1 4K at 29.97 build 15.
This configuration was the probable cause of multiple codec errors which are likely now to be consigned to history with build 16.
City aerials at 4K are very very demanding on the wide end of a zoom lens. A 3k crop would solve some of the edge softness issues or with Epic a 4k crop of 5k.

awesome.
heavy impressed.

HD resolution was stunning enough RED takes the wow factor one step further.

Did you use the CF cards or the RedDrive?
Reason I'm asking: we just finished a music video and the vibration from the drums causes some 182 drop frames during one long take...so we switched to the CF's & it was fine.
I'm assuming that if your camera was in a Wescam housing, you were using the raid drives?
A remote switch as well?

We used a RED drive.
We had quite a few codec errors, probably because we were at 30fps 4k 36MB build 15 with a very busy subject. Wasnt a problem as we planned for a few hickups.

Capped iris and they went away.
Had three drive faults that I can remember due to bumping.
Yes it was Helicopter Film Services Wescam with remote switch.
Waveform on Panasonic 17 inch once calibrated on hte ground was a reasonable method of monitoring exposure.
Landing would have cost us 30 minutes of flight time, we were shooting air to air with two other aircraft so greater endurance of drive was a benifit.

cheers
