  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Adobe Photoshop Installer still a thing?

Required Yes, desirable No.
(see here)
It doesn't understand newer R3D formats like footage from the V-Raptor and the performance in Photoshop to work with is worse than in other apps like RCX or Resolve (crawling instead of jogging through), so even if it can be used for Dragon footage, it's probably faster when you export stills from RCX or Resolve and open these file in PS for editing. Bonus: better color space conversion than in PS.

Thanks for that. How about for the specific case of exporting Dragon .R3D stills from REDCine-X to load into Photoshop? Does the installer add some additional utility for developing the raw still that's worth looking into?

Or is it just plain better to export a TIF or similar from davinci for photo/stills work?

In this scenario you don't need the PS plugin, it doesn't add any tools to PS beyond enabling the import of R3D files.
In RCX you can export either TIFF or PSD files directly from the Stills Workspace / Export, and in Resolve save to TIFF either from the Color ("Grab Still") or Deliver page.
